Canberra based Indie Rocker Gia Ransome has just released her sultry debut single ‘Boots’, which was premiered via AAA Backstage.

‘Boots’ was written about Gia’s time living in London, and the roadblocks that go along with moving to a cut-throat and competitive city on your own. It was written during a time of frustration at facing hurdles that seemed impossible to overcome. From a musical perspective, it’s inspired by London’s underground rock music scene and the acts Gia saw at dive bars and small venues across the city, and the aesthetics of the city’s back streets and alleyways.

Gia Ransome hypnotises her audiences with her distinctly feminine take on rock music. She has been described as a femme fatale who is “kind of like Lana Del Rey, but she’s holding a knife to your throat”.

Gia began her career as an acoustic singer/songwriter, which took her from her home in Australia all the way to Europe and beyond. Last year Gia formed her new band, influenced by the likes of Arctic MonkeysNick Caveand the Bad SeedsAlexandra SaviorTamino, and Lana Del Rey.

Debut single ‘Boots’ is available on all major online streaming services.

Sydney based Indie Folk artist Hedy Blaazer has released her new single ‘Video Ezy’, which was premiered via international blog V13. She has also announced a run of east coast tour dates to celebrate the release.

“I quite literally wrote Video Ezy about remembering someone who ignored me outside a video store ten years ago. While that sounds hilarious and extremely petty, it’s not so much about that experience itself as it was about how vivid the memory was. It’s funny how you can think about something and be transported to that moment like a movie, re-living the emotions as if they are occurring for the first time.”

Since her debut, Hedy Blaazer has not taken her foot off the gas. The end of 2021 saw Hedy release her single and music video ‘Fluorescent’. The video was quickly added to rotation on ABC Rage, and the release received positive reviews from the likes of
AAA BackstageAustralian Music SceneThe Point Music NewsMusic Of The Future plus many more. The single was aired on well over 70 radio stations worldwide.

She then followed-up in 2022 with the release of her single and video ‘Lying Flat’, which was premiered via The AU Review and was aired on radio stations around the world, including Double J.

New single ‘Video Ezy’ is available for download and streaming on all major online stores.

25 years after the release of their multi-Grammy-nominated hit album, God Shuffled His Feet, Winnipeg’s Crash Test Dummies embarked on an anniversary tour whose overwhelming reception led them to return to the road in 2022, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut LP, The Ghosts That Haunt Me.

The stories which fans have told the band while on tour in recent years, some very dark, others very funny, and all so personal, have inspired the band to return to writing music.

Their new single, “Sacred Alphabet,” is a shimmering revelation which captures a feeling of awe. The instrumentation is sparse, featuring ‘spectral’ sounds and a choir constructed entirely out of member Ellen Reid’s voice.

Sacred Alphabet” explores the metaphor of sound and symbol, contemplating the world before it existed: “No subject, object, verb or tense; sound had not been enslaved to sense.”

Currently working on her first EP as a solo artist, Maddy Little of indie folk band, We Wander, is debuting her first single “Six Feet Under” which explores her vulnerability and emotion as a songwriter.

“I remember waking up one Sunday morning just feeling very empty, and feeling like there was a hole in my chest that was just growing bigger and bigger,” says Little. “I turned my phone off that day and just wanted to disappear from the world for a little bit and that’s when I sat down at my piano and instantly poured my heart out.”

The indie pop song was co-produced with Christian Turner. Stay on the lookout for more music soon! You don’t want to miss what’s to come.

Halifax duo Smaller Hearts began as a game. Kristina Parlee and Ron Bates tore up pieces of paper, and on each they wrote a word that could describe a song: slow, fast, quiet, loud, odd time signature, with or without certain instruments, et cetera. Through three albums, these “instructions” distilled into a catchy synth-pop laced with just enough experimentation and discord to keep things interesting.

“Belts and Braces” is about coming to the realization that too much careful planning can actually be counterproductive. There’s an intentional urgency in the bass line; the keyboard part sounds like an alarm, to mirror the anxiety of overthinking. Then, the song comes to a decisive and confident conclusion.

A hidden gem from the frozen heart of Toronto, ON, La Faute is art school dropout and Sony Music Publishing artist Peggy Messing’s dark, dreamy solo project. A visual artist, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter originally from Winnipeg, MB, she explores themes of surface vs. depth, longing, betrayal, mourning and desire.

On the heels of critically acclaimed title track “Blue Girl Nice Day” from her forthcoming debut album of the same name, La Faute unveils another haunting single. “Watercolours” teeters between a feeling of longing and a little bit of darkness. Is this song about love or an unhealthy, unrequited obsession?
