Interview With Nate from 28n By Chris

TwentyEightN are a great rock band.
Their music is great modern rock music which rocks.
Their music is good as and so is the ep.
These guys are going places.

28n Website

1. How did Twenty Eight N form?

All three of us went to high school together in a small
town in upstate New York. We played in our high school band
together and in Christmas of 1996 Nate and Kris traded in
their trumpet and trombone for a guitar and bass and headed
over to Lowell’s basement.

2. Who were your idols growing up?

Magic Johnson, Darryl Strawberry, Jason Priestly. Or do you
mean musical idols? In that case, Live, Better Than Ezra,
Pearl Jam, and other 90’s rock outfits.

3. Who were your influnces?

Live was probably our biggest influences from the very
start. We all dug the Smashing Pumpkins…they were our
first rock concert. We probably have more influences now
than ever. Bands such as Live, Better Than Ezra,
Audioslave, Coldplay, and Our Lady Peace are all bands that
we really admire and enjoy.

4. What has the responce been to new ep?

The response has been amazing! I think people enjoy hearing
how we’ve changed and matured over the years. Working with
producer Brent Bodrug helped us focus our songwriting and
gave us more of a rock edge than we had previously.

5. How has Alternative Addiction helped?

Chad Durkee and all the people over at Alternative
Addiction have been so supportive. The first time we were
featured on the site with a song called “The Dive” our
website traffic doubled. It’s a great site for unsigned
bands and fans of music alike. We check it out
everyday!

6. Has the Internet helped with your music?

Absolutely amazing! It is THE best tool an unsigned band
has. We can only wonder what it would be like as an
independent artist without the world wide web.

7. What are your thoughts to filesharing and the mp3
format?

We think iTunes is a great solution to the problem. It
increases the buying power and selectiveness of the buyer,
while at the same time compensating those who created the
music.

8. Have you had much responce from labels?

We have been in touch with several labels in the United
States.

9. If you could work with any one who would it
be?

Rick Rubin, Jerry Harrison, Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno,
etc.

10. How did the recording process for the ep
go?

We recorded at Brent Bodrug home studio (Sly-Fi Studios) in
Toronto, ON, CA. The record took about a month to
track.

11. What is it like being a indepedent artist in
america?

It’s tough. There are alot of hoops that you have to jump
through. Trying to make it as an independent artist is a
catch 22. Labels won’t sign you unless you are popular and
clubs won’t book you unless you have label backing and can
promise to pack their club the first time you travel
through a city. Getting signed is equal parts hard work and
luck.

12. What are your thoughts on realty tv talent shows eg
american idol?

We are sick of reality TV…but we do have a soft spot in
our hearts for American Idol, although we don’t all agree
on who should have been this year’s American Idol. (Lowell
votes Carrie Underwood, Nate votes Bo Bice, Kris
abstains)

13. If you could have a dream gig line up who would they
be?

Live, Audioslave, Coldplay, U2, and of course
28North.

14. Have you had much support from radio?

We have had a good deal of support from radio stations in
upstate New York, where we are from.

15. If you could be on The Simpsons or Spongebob
Squarepants where would you be?

Spongebob who? Definitely The Simpsons!

16. What is on your stereo at the moment?

Better Than Ezra – Before The Robots, Coldplay – X & Y,
Audioslave – Out of Exile

17. What are some of your favourite musicial
artists/bands?

Live, Coldplay, U2, Better Than Ezra, Audioslave, Keane,
Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin

18. What movies you have seen lately you have really
enjoyed?

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Garden
State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Notebook,
Napolean Dynomite, Big Fish

19 What are your favourite movies?

Braveheart, Gladiator, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of
the Spotless Mind, Titanic

20. Realty TV? Good Or Bad?

BAD

21. Beer Of Choice?

Magic Hat #9 (Draft of course)
Guinness
Amstel Light
Bottled Budweiser (we’re cowboys!)

Thanks for your time any last words

You are stronger than you know, I’m stronger than you know,
We’re stronger than we know (This Beautiful Light – new 28N
song)

Thanks for your interest in us. We hope you enjoy the
disc!

Cheers, the guys

chris
