Slightest Clue is a Vancouver-based quartet. Charting the emotional highs and lows of a relationship, their new single “Suit Uptight!” grapples with the fear of losing someone.

Produced by Matt Di Pomponio, the thrashing verses represent one’s anxious state of mind in thinking this person might be gone for good. In contrast, the melodic choruses capture the sweet relief of realizing that you may have another shot at working things out.

Canadian singer-songwriter Liam Barrack has been produced by JUNO-Award nominees like Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, MONOWHALES) and is dedicated to his work as a musician, crafting beguiling indie pop songs which chart the ups and downs of his life so far.

His new EP, Sines and Symptoms, was recorded at Echoplant in Vancouver with Worsley, featuring contemplative and self critical songwriting with an earnest pop sensibility.

Memories,” taken from the EP, reflects on Barrack‘s first year of university which was mostly spent in an intoxicated state. “The song sounds like it’s directed to a person, but if you listen to the lyrics carefully, you can tell I’m actually speaking to the substances in a personified manner,” Barrack explains.

Michele Stodart is an award-winning solo artist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in London. Born in Trinidad, she spent her early years surrounded by Caribbean music and culture, until she and her family moved to Queens, New York where she spent a large part of her childhood. Michele is best known as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter of Mercury-nominated, double-platinum selling band, The Magic Numbers, who have released five critically acclaimed studio albums with top ten singles. Her third solo studio album, Invitation, will be released on Sept. 15.

The final single from the LP is “Push & Pull.” It’s a play on words – there is always a rhythmical push (ahead of the beat) and pull (slightly behind), when playing music. On an emotional level (inside of one’s body) the push and pull is a feeling of being torn, pulled in many different directions. This part of the album touches on motherhood, the responsibilities and sometimes guilt that comes with and around being a single mum.

There is a cinematic experience that happens with the music arrangements on this song. There are crossover rhythms, creating a heartbeat atmosphere around the conversational lyrics which build in intensity and sudden relief. The soaring melody line of both violin and piano breaks through and sings – creating that yearning musical pull.

Indie rock band Lost in Japan craft captivating sounds that resonate with listeners around the world. “Our mission statement has always been that we’re here for you no matter what is going on in your life. Pretty much all of our songs are about overcoming obstacles and making it through hard times. Some ‘sad boy’ stuff with very uplifting chords,” frontman Addison Johnson states.

Produced by Dan Brodbeck (Helix, Headstrong, The Salads) and Matt Snell (Dua Lipa, Dermot Kennedy, Sean Hook), their sophomore LP Night Talks is “an album about therapy through friendship.” Inspired by late night drives, it’s about the type of “conversations you can have with your closest friend that you can’t have with anyone else.”

“Run” is the concluding track, written for their fans. “In an unsure career of being a musician, we wanted [them] to know we will continue this if they’re willing to join us for the journey.”

Dressed in black denim and adorned with solid gold grills and long beards, Mountain Head’s sound blends psych-rock, alt-rock and elements of electro/jangle pop into a unique and potent sonic concoction. With millions of streams and multiple Top 40 billboard hits in Canada, the band has been finishing music with legendary producer GGGarth Richardson in Gibsons, B.C. at the renowned Farm Studios. This marks their first time recording outside the confines of their own studio.

Internet,” the inaugural single to be shared from these sessions, was originally sparked by a beatbox and nose bass jam. The track stands as a reflection on the web and underscores the irony of boundless information devolving into disputes and trolling.

Much like their name, Whale and the Wolf’s unique sound is sonically immense and wildly fierce in its energetic intensity. Unapologetically authentic with a generous helping of playfulness, they’re audacious yet accessible. WATW skillfully incorporates the band’s multiple musical influences, perspectives and personalities to create their own distinctive maximal sound, sans ego.

Living In My Head” was the first track that the band recorded remotely during lockdown. The experience proved to be a challenge to write together as they worked on the song individually, and adapting to this songwriting style allowed them to really focus on the individual parts, making them quite nuanced and complex, while still working together to serve the song as a whole.

The focus track comes from their 10 song LP, Envy. There was a long recording process for the album – five of the songs were written with producers Jimmy Mansfield and Paul Rogers before the pandemic, and five of the songs were written after with Brian Moncarz. Lyrically, the themes came from an honest self-reflection. We can all acknowledge that we are imperfect in many ways, and in allowing that truth, we are able to further explore the key theme of envy.
