New Music Thursday

Dara Schindelka (she/her) is a Saskatchewan femme folk artist with a touch of the North and the pull of the prairies. Dara is a classically trained pianist, singer and educator that not only performs but teaches music at the University of Regina Conservatory. Her knowledge and love of music is evident in her compositions and arrangements of both instrumental and vocal works.

Her latest track, “Love is Free,” from her new LP She Imagined mixes folk songwriting with modern digital instrumentation. No matter how hard extremists try to control others, they will never control the human heart that beats within each of us. Love is, and will always be, free from such systems.

With 2023’s Healing Power (released October 13, 2023 on Sonic Unyon Records), Haliburton, Ontario-based JUNO and Polaris Prize-nominated singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot showcased her considerable clout as a pop songsmith, delivering a dozen stunning tracks that together represent a career high. The album served as her third outing with producer Gus van Go, and the collaboration was yet another quantum leap in her artistic development.

Melbourne based singer/songwriter Harley Luscombe has just released his intoxicating new single and music video ‘Bitter Love’, which premiered exclusively via AAA Backstage

My latest single “Bitter Love” can be best described as sort of a musical Self-Portrait; an insight into how I view myself currently. The song plays on the idea of my love being considered bitter/bittersweet, and that one can find inner peace without it – “all that you see here is enough”.

Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artists such as Matt CorbyDavid Bowie, and Childish GambinoHarley Luscombe has crafted a unique sound that seamlessly blends elements of Folk, Rock, and Soul.

Over the past two years, Harley Luscombe has become a beloved local performer known for his soaring vocal hooks, flawless vibrato, and friendly stage presence. He is now ready to show his musical evolution to the world on his new summer anthemBitter Love’.

New single ‘Bitter Love’ is available on all major online stores and streaming services.

Born and raised in Toronto, Victoria Staff was always an “anxious child.” The string that connected much of her young life was using music to communicate with family, friends, teachers, and even therapists. Over time, this coping mechanism developed into a passion for music that would lead to her career as an indie-pop artist. Staff continues to use the written word to communicate with her audience the complex themes of love, loss, and her struggle with mental health.

From My Side of the Table” is her take on her relationship that was falling apart at the seams. It wasn’t until they were out for dinner for her birthday that she realized that the relationship was already done.

Fresh off the back of a highly successful Australian headliner tour, Jack Biilmann is at it again with the release of his new single ‘Hot Blood’, which premiered exclusively via Tower Of Song on Double J. Biilmann has teamed up with his band The Black Tide to unleash this new masterpiece.

‘Hot Blood’ is a blues/rock jam with a killer hook which continues their 2023 album, ‘Divided Mind’. The band chemistry is undeniable with the addition of backing vocals from Sara Flint (Apricot Ink). in this high energy track that wouldn’t be out of place on the soundtrack of Sons Of Anarchy or Yellowstone

Their recent album ‘Divided Mind’ debuted at #3 on the ARIA Blues Charts as well as the Australian Independent Labels Album Chart. The release was streamed over 1 million times and led to a plethora of outstanding opportunities, including an endorsement deal from Fender GuitarsDR Strings & Badcat Amplifiers, a tour with Dan Sultan, airplay on Double J, and a publishing deal with Cooking Vinyl (just to mention a few.)

Lyrically, ‘Hot Blood’highlights Biilmann’s “Hot Blooded” nature which describes a great deal of determination and passion behind whatever he does in his life. The track is groovy, tight, has world class guitar chops and is rounded off with a gritty vocal performance which stays with the listener.

Biilmann has also announced a limited run of tour dates with The Black Tide to celebrate the release. New single ‘Hot Blood’ is available on all major online streaming services.
