Canadian independent artist and songwriter Tilsen shares “Train To Vienna,” a bittersweet and emotionally charged alt-pop single inspired by the true story of ending a relationship aboard a train bound for Vienna. Pairing intimate autobiographical storytelling with an arrangement that steadily expands into something bigger and more cathartic, the track captures the difficult realization that loving someone doesn’t always mean a relationship is healthy enough to survive.
The setting is as literal as it sounds. While travelling by train to Vienna with her then-boyfriend, Tilsen reached a breaking point after realizing his insecurity had begun consuming too much of their relationship. Though she still cared deeply for him, she knew staying together was no longer right for either of them.
“The song captures that moment of knowing you have to leave someone even when you still care about them, and trusting that eventually, you’ll both be better off,” Tilsen explains.
Continuing a run of adventurous standalone releases, Strange Plants unveil “You Say Falling,” a hypnotic and anthemic psych-pop single that challenges conventional ideas of success, stability, and what it means to truly thrive. Canadian singer-songwriter Shiloh Lindsey shares “Failing Hail,” a tender, bittersweet, and quietly hopeful alt-country ballad drawn from one of the most personal moments on her forthcoming album, The Western Veil, set for release on November 6th, 2026. The song began not with a guitar, but with a text message. While Shiloh was recovering from the devastating motorcycle accident that nearly claimed her leg, her oldest brother found himself awake at two in the morning wrestling with demons of his own. Equal parts cinematic and cathartic, the track channels the slow burn of heartbreak into a powerful story of intuition, self-trust, and ultimately reclaiming one’s own strength. Inspired by a close friend’s difficult breakup, the song grew from Scarlett’s long-standing fascination with the phrase “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” While none of the events are directly autobiographical, witnessing someone question their instincts sparked a vivid fictional story about the quiet power of women’s intuition. Interestingly, the song evolved from an earlier composition that explored similar emotional territory before ultimately giving way to something stronger.
“I had another song called ‘I Don’t Wish You Well’ that came first, but this one became its successor,” Scarlett explains. “I don’t think this song would be as good as it is if I hadn’t written that one first.”
Melbourne based musical dreamers The Hunter Express are back again with the release of their hard-hitting new single called ‘Easier’, which premiered exclusively via Backseat Mafia.
“Easier is my song to the broken. It’s my nod to a John Wick kind of feeling. The months after releasing our third album in 2019, I found it difficult to write new music. Writing new music is what I love most. Even in the rough times I somehow find joy. Then life hits and someone close to me went through the most unimaginable experience. I put music aside, spending most of my energy supporting and loving that person and their little family. Easier. Throughout the months, I’d just say out loud ‘Easier, easier for you, why can’t it be any easier?’ The words would come and go. The song and chorus was forming almost by itself.
