Natalie Reiss Interview

Natalie Reiss

Natalie Reiss is a singer songwriter I’ve known for a while, I dig what she does and think she gonna go far with it. So I wanted to know what she has been up to music wise. Read on and watch this space folks.

1. What have you been up to lately music wise since we last spoke?

It’s been a while since we last spoke but the mainstay has been writing. Loads of lyrics, melodies, going to gigs and exposing myself to new sounds and styles.

2. What has been the inspiration for your new songs you have been working on?

Personal experiences are at the forefront of my songs. People say that the best songs are like journal entries and I try to keep that in mind when writing.

3. Do you think blogs are a great tool for getting music out to an audience?

Absolutely! Music can and should be personal; a blog seems like a great place to express your music and personality.

4. What has been your favorite place to sing so far?

When I was first getting into singing, I performed ‘At Last’ in front of small group of people at NIDA. It was an experience that stuck with me because I felt such a connection to the audience and most of them were also performers.

 5. Are you happy how people have responded to your music?

I’m beyond happy! I started off writing music as more of a personal experience and was surprised and overwhelmed that people resonated with it.

6. Who have you enjoyed working with the most?

In all honesty most of my writing has been a solitary endeavour however, working with producer Stuart Stuart is always great because he really pushes me and usually understands my sometimes-bizarre musical references!

7. How has the media responded to your music?

I’m still pretty new to the game but was thrilled to get some love from popjustice.com and some Melbourne radio stations (and you!)… so far, so good.

8. Any plans to play down here in Melbourne?

No immediate plans but I LOVE Melbourne and I shall keep it in my sights!

9. What advice can you give to people who wanna make a career in music?

Make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons, enlist friends to help you, be persistent, creative and learn about the business side of music,

10. Do u think sites such has reverbnation & twitter are good tool for promotion?

Reverbnation is great because you can control almost everything from that site alone and it gives you regular statistics, which is important. Twitter is another great tool, however, there’s a difference between keeping it personal and professional. Not many people (apart from your nearest and dearest) want to hear about what you had for breakfast unless you’re Rihanna.

11. When can we expect a release from you?

A release date is TBC, however, you can keep up with me at twitter.com/NatReiss and myspace.com/nataliereiss
