Evolving from rock origins, The Lad Classic pull from the familiar and add their own flavour to create something deeper. Combining influences from soul to pop, gospel to funk, the trio recently completed their forthcoming debut EP with producer Dave Schiffman (The Strumbellas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Audioslave, Adele, Rage Against the Machine).
Their latest offering, “Feelin’ High,” is about meeting someone who instantly lifts you up because of the connection you feel to who they are as a person and how you vibe together. Not because of what they do for a living, or what they wear, or how much money they have.
Casey Moon is a genre-defying multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer. Over the past year, Casey has already released Fountains and Mirrors in his trilogy of EPs. The final EP, Ashes, is out on Feb 16. Each project varies in genre and draws thematic influence from a different film or TV series. Listened to sequentially, the projects tell a story about growing up, identity, love, and loss.
Lead single from the latest EP “Distance” perfectly exemplifies the project’s overall sonic intentions.
Drawing inspiration from the film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Ashes is about the sudden horror of waking up and finding yourself in the throes of self destruction. Habits can creep up on you. You might be feeling like you’re in too deep, stuck in your own mess. The movie is all about memory, the will to forget and the pitfalls of not moving forward, which is expressed throughout the album lyrically.
“Writing music has always been a way for me to understand complex emotions,” says Casey. “I feel like this project has helped me make sense of a very tough time in my life, figuring out how I got there and what changes I needed to make. I hope it can do the same for someone else.”
Toronto-based songwriter and psychotherapist, Kalila Badali, is sharing a new single from her upcoming project, Panacea. The dreamy and melodic folk of the lead single is an expression of the deep desire which Kalila felt to “help and fix” a good friend of hers who was suffering from mental illness.
Unconsciously, I’ve attached myself to you. Rhizomal, with roots instead of a body.
“Sometimes love makes you lose track of where you begin and another person ends. It can feel really good in a way, deeply connected and supportive, but ultimately it’s not great to lose boundaries. That can lead to all sorts of resentments and confusion,” explains Badali.
This Coast as an artist is not limited to one genre, each track is a new surprise but all cohesively his own. raining on sunday is a dynamic light bop that glitters while encouraging your feet to move along. Inspired by the simple joy of placing it all on hold to linger in creature comfort.
