1. How did the band form?
In Sept 2007 a few of us were living together (Hux, Daz and Benni) and decided to start writing some rock tunes together. One of our first ventures was a songwriting competition to have a track placed in the feature film “Hitman” from 20th Century Fox.
We entered the song “I’m your Hitman” (still available on Itunes on the “Hitman” soundtrack) under the working name “Empire.” We won the comp and had the song placed in the movie. After such a successful start we decided to quickly put together a set worth of original songs and played our first gig in Feb 2008. We settled on the Band name “Rhymada” and were a fairly prog rock genre band with a monstrous live sound.
Nowadays we’ve changed a few band members and have a really strong vision of how we want to sound today and in the future which is a lot more in the Rock/Pop genre aka “Fall out boy,” “Foo Fighters.”. We recently changed name to “Crossing Romeo” and finished our self titled debut album that we are so proud of and can’t wait to show to the rest of the world.
2. What was it like to record at Birdland Studios?
Working with Lindsay Gravina (Producer, “Living End” “Thirsty Merc.”) at Birdland was a great experience. He’s a man who knows what works and he’s not afraid to help out with songwriting and song structure. He went above and beyond the call of duty with us and we greatly appreciate the work he put in for us.
3. Are you happy the way the album turned out?
The album sounds amazing and we are very confident we now have an album of international standard to really start working our way up the worldwide music ladder.
4. What was the inspiration for the album?
Life. An album really is just a short audio movie of an artists recent history. Since we all were involved in the lyrics writing process you really get a feel of the experiences and events that have moved us all in recent times.
5. What inspires the band when writing music?
I think all songs are different. Sometimes you want a song to really pull at heart strings and create a deep emotional connection and sometimes you really just want a song to ROCK your face off. “Horses for courses.” I think as long as it’s giving us a strong emotional or physiological reaction as we’re writing, we know we’re on the right track.
6. Who would you most like to play a show with?
Daz, Cassar and I (Hux) are completely obsessed with Oz rock outfit “Karnivool.” I’ve always loved the OZ prog rock movement of the past 20 years and these guys have just taken it to a new level with their musicianship and creative writing style. If you haven’t gotten in to these guys then I highly recommend you give yourself this musical gift.
Matty (Bass) loves Bon Jovi so I think he’d say those guys. We actually were finalists in the MMM comp to support them last year. Matty was sooo excited but unfortunately for us, we were beaten by a great rock band called “The scarlets.”
7. How has social networking help the band?
Facebook is an amazing medium for getting information out to fans. We use it all the time to promote gigs, the album release, merchandise etc. Since we just changed names recently our new site www.crossingromeo.com is a little low on support so if you’re reading this, please get on there and like us god dammit!!
8. What has been your favorite show to date so far?
Our album launch last week was probably my favourite. We had an amazing turnout and it was soo much fun to finally show everyone what we’ve been working so hard on for the past year of our lives.
Close second would have to be when we supported “Dead Letter Circus” a couple years ago. Mainly because I freaking love them. Great bunch of guys too so was a real thrill to meet them all.
9. If you could have anyone in a video clip who would it be?
We’re actually in preproduction for the first single, “No need for names,” which is a song basically about lust and I have a scene where I’m making out with a very good looking young lady (Sarah Hilton, Zoo magazine etc.). Will be my first on scene make out so I’m actually a little nervous about it, but should be heaps of fun to shoot.
I have a huge crush on the actress “Minka Kelly” so I guess I would have to say it would be amazing if she was the leading lady in the clip. No offense to Sarah if she reads this because she’s an extremely attractive girl too.
10. What is next for the band?
After the film clip is shot and we release the single in late June we are actually taking the band over to LA. Planning some support tours over there to start spreading the “Crossing Romeo” name over this planet of ours. We have a firm idea of the kind of band we want to be and where we see ourselves in the future. Now it’s time to start making moves and promote the hell out of this album which we are so proud of.
