A Short Walk to Pluto is a band who I came across when I was told about them. I was totally hooked. Knew I had to interview them. This is what they had to say.

  1. How did the band come about?

Max, Danny & Jake met jamming in their high school music room. After stints with a few singers, they met Emma in 2021 and have been running strong since!

2. Are you surprised how well the covers you have done have been received?

More excited than surprised! Just happy to see the world still appreciates the same music we do.

3. How does a song start for a band?

For us, it usually begins with a chord progression or a riff accompanied by some skeleton lyrics and melodies. The arrangement really just builds itself from there, adding drums and bass into the mix until it all makes sense.

4. Do you guys make time to write songs or you write when inspiration or an idea hits?

When you’re running a DIY band, it’s hard to balance all the behind-the-scenes stuff while leaving time to be creative. Thankfully, as musicians, when a riff or melody comes into our heads, it’s second nature to just get it out and put pen to paper. In that moment, everything else can wait!

5. How important are video clips for you guys?

They’re how most people discover us!

6. Do you think social media plays a major part in exposure for you?

The majority of our fans have found us through our socials and then gravitated towards our original music. It’s great to have an outlet like that, but it also means you can’t just focus on the music, there’s gotta be time for the content.

7. What do you guys like about playing live?

When performing live, you can put aside all the stresses of writing, recording, and running operations behind the scenes. Our live show is the true final product, where everything is materialized, tangible, and makes sense. It’s the reason for our ‘why’.

8. If you could have the ultimate lineup together who would be on it?

Our dream bill probably has Rush, The Police, and Paramore on there!

9. Is there any song you really want to cover but haven’t yet?

Not really. We’ve had a great time putting our stamp on classic songs for a while, but we’re so passionate about our own original music that everything else becomes secondary.

10. Will we get an album from you guys soon?

Yup! This summer we’ll be releasing our first full-length album. Keep your eyes and ears out for single releases along the way!

11. Do you think physical media is still important or is it all about being on that playlist on the major streaming service?

The most important platform for getting our music out there in today’s day and age is certainly digital services. That said, we’re big appreciators of music you can hold in your hands – it’s a different experience when you listen to it! That’s why we’re going to be dropping a limited run of physical vinyl along with the digital release of our album!

12. What is next for the band?

Lots of big plans! Too much to do and such little time. You’ll certainly see us pour more of our hearts and souls into our original material as that’s what we’re passionate about. We hope to see lots of lovely faces at our live shows as we tour the U.S. and Canada this May!
