The Little Ones are one excellent band.
They write and play songs that are really well written and also catchy.
They play indie rock which is excellent.
I knew I had to interview them for the site.
So here is the interview.
The Little Ones Website
1. How did the band form?
We formed as a group about two years ago. We casually formed in those two years. We are all friends and are interconnected in one way or another. We discovered that the chemistry we had as friends translated well in the practice space and in the studio.
2. What were your major influences?
I think we are heavily influenced by music from the Motown era. We have so much respect for how songs were written during that time and how melody and rhythm can create a powerful mood. We are also influenced by Tropicalia music. We love music from Os Mutantes and Gilberto Gil. I think they created music that was fun but had some real social commentary.
3. If you could have a three band bill who would they be?
That’s really hard but if I had all the power in the world I would create a bill the had the Beatles, The Kinks, and Os Mutantes.
4. Do you think MySpace is a good tool for promoting the band’s music?
Myspace is a great tool for getting your music out there. It definitely can reach a wider audience, and when used the right way, can be a valuable tool for communication.
5. What has been your favourite gig you have played so far?
I think our last show was a our favorite. It was our EP release party at El Cid in Los Angeles. We had a lot of our friends and family there so it made it such a special night.
6. What are your thoughts on file sharing and the mp3 format?
File sharing is great for bands such as ourselves who need to get our name out. It’s a great way for people to listen to your songs and hopefully gets them to purchase your record. The mp3 format has enabled music to travel faster and further than ever.
7. Do you think the Internet is good for helping artists get known?
I think so. The Internet is another avenue in which music can be heard. Anyone from around the world can listen to any band at any time. That’s powerful!
8. What bands/artists are you listening to lately?
I have been listening to a lot of Rio Funk. I can’t stop listening to Brazilian music. There is something so magical about music from that region.
9. Who has helped you out the most?
Well first off, our families have definitely helped us out the most. Their support has really inspired us. Our good friend Graham MacRae has been so instrumental in pushing us to get our music out there. By the way, he has released an EP called ‘On Your Marks’ that’s stellar.
10. What has the response been to your music on the web?
The response has been really good. It really means a lot to us when people take time out to listen. We are so grateful!
11. How did the recording of the EP go?
The recording of our EP went so well. We recorded our EP with David Newton, who was a member of The Mighty Lemon Drops. Working with him in the studio was a dream. He was so fun and creative in the studio that it brought out the best in all of us. As a result, we recorded more than the six songs found on our new EP.
12. What has the response been to it so far?
The response from our EP has been great. Again, we are so thankful that people are taking the time out to listen to our music.
13. Have you guys had much response from radio or record labels?
Our EP is going for adds this week at college radio here in the states. We are pretty excited. I think some stations are already spinning our songs. There seems to be some interest from some record labels, which is really flattering.
14. What is next for The Little Ones?
I think we are concentrating on booking more shows in the next couple months. Hopefully we can come out to Australia in the near future!
