SUSY BLUE
NEW ALBUM NOBODY’S SOMEBODY
TOURING THIS MAY
Susy Blue is set to celebrate the release of her highly anticipated new album Nobody?s Somebody with an east coast Album Launch tour this May.
Divinely vintage vocals, honeyed harmonies and charming tales are what make up the forthcoming full length release from Melbourne?s Susy Blue. Inspired by Susy?s love of 60?s pop, early rock n roll, nouveau-folk and everything in between. From a history steeped in the study of classical flute and dabbling in gypsy jazz, tango, chorros, bossa nova, mixed with an affection for old school country and folk, to a long lasting love for singer songwriters such as Joanna Newsom, Bjork and Fiona Apple.
The release of Nobody?s Somebody sees Susy Blue traverse the music landscape from the circus cabaret folk of previous releases, and venture towards a grittier and heavier sound. Diverse and ever evolving, producer Shane O?Mara (The Audreys, Tim Rogers, Paul Kelly) replaced banjo with electric guitars and added eclectic instrumentation from smashing glasses, indian drums, Balinese gamelan to baritone sax, creating a fresh and bold Susy Blue sound.
Nobody?s Somebody offers up many various styling?s, all tied together by Susy?s buoyant and timeless vocals. Opening track ?Murder Bolero?, is a Latin, gypsy, epic surf rock; debut single ?Wish In My Dish? a kooky pop calypso that moves into, latest single ?Fell From A Wall?; a haunting gospel groove, featuring multiple percussive smashing op-shop glass samples, each recorded individually. Folk train shuffle ?Gone Now? was inspired by the loss of a friend that went missing and was never found. Genre hopping continues on ?Always Alone? a classic vintage soul doo-wop and upbeat gritty surf rock track ?Baby I?m Bored?. The latter half of the album delivers more lush and wistful shades of whimsy, peppered with strings and woodwinds, whilst showing her mischievous side with the wonderfully taunting ?Cheer the Fuck Up? and Hawaiian inspired tongue in cheek ?Hopefully I?ll Die?.
Susy Blue?s signature mercurial sounds tinkle and smash melodic expectations and turn the idea of genre from a staid plaid into a tartan cape worn over the shoulder and pinned with a sparkly brooch your Grandma’s ex lover gave you one night. Jean Paul Gaultier meets Doris Day at a Portishead gig.
Don?t miss her coming to a venue near you..
