State Cows Interview

State Cows

State Cows are an amazing Swedish band playing westcoast music, the west coast sound from the golden era 1975-1985 and they do it really well. Their debut album is amazing, it’s such a cool record I was hooked. So read on and find out why these guys rock.

1. How did the band form?

While we were working together on Daniel Andersson’s solo album "Days in L.A." we started thinking in terms of doing a full-fledged back-to-the-golden-age-of-westcoast project which eventually lead up the State Cows album.

2. What has been the highlight so far?

To have the grand master of westcoast, Jay Graydon, play on the record.

3. How has sites such as bandcamp and cdbaby helped the band?

Both sites have been a tremendous help in the distribution of our music.

4. What inspires the band when writing music?

Other music, books, films, news, things people say … anything really.

5. What was the inspiration for the debut album?

The many slick westcoast productions of the of the golden era (circa 1975-1985), mainly produced by Jay Graydon and/or David Foster.

6. What it is the scene like where you guys are from?

It’s a great music scene for such a small city. There’s a band culture and great diversity in terms of genres.

7. What advice could you give to some one wanting to give a career in a music a shot?

As with anything, what you put in is what you get out. If you’re determined and prepared to do the work, go for it.

8. How has touring helped the band?
Touring is a way to reach new audiences and connect with fans.

9. Who would the band most like to work with or play with?

There’s too many to enumerate.

10. How has radio and the media received the album?

Mainstream media and radio are generally (with a few glowing exceptions) oblivious to narrow genres such as westcoast. Blogs, fanzines and online radio, on the other hand, have been very interested and we’ve received an overall fantastic response from the internet community.

11. What is next for the band?

We’re writing new songs. Recording will start in summer 2012.
