Slumberhaze Interview

Slumberhaze

Slumberhaze are a great Aussie band doing some good things with a bit of Triple J love. This is what Sash from the band had to say about it all.

1. What was the inspiration behind the the new song and how was it structured?
It was inspired by reminiscing over my primary school/high school daze. I realised how mentally controlling ‘team sport’ is, well is to me. It felt like I was constantly pushed to perform at a pace or level that I may not have been comfortable in, interested in, or capable of performing in. But as I dwelled on it more, I realised there was an equal Positive & Negative intention. An intention of tradition and motivation.

2. Are you happy the way it turned out and what do you hope people will get out of it?
Very, I believe people will dig the vibes and power of the tune, but lyrically, its simple and fast, so I don’t see many people extrapolating much from it, unless they are some serious lyric searchers. However, its just the seed I hope to sow. All is beautiful.

3. How does a song normally come to you?
Intuitively, absolutely. It comes when it comes and its either caught or its lost! I fucking frustrating hearing a dope song while swimming and not having your pad or phone to write it down or spit it into a recorder. Its very fucked, but everything is fucked and everything is beautiful.

4. What inspires you now when writing music from when you were starting out?
The truth. Seeing beyond the haze has been the biggest change in our writing. Writing from a point of love and truth far supersedes any writing from a point of ego and style/fashion/hype. We are dope as fuck anyway (no ego)(maybe a little)(heaps)……

5. How does having Triple J support mean to you guys?
That they are like minded, they feel our vibes and essence and support us. Nothing but thanks there.

6. What to you stands out being the highlight to date?
Everyday being blessed to write more cool and genre defying music. We have our eyes on more and more.

7. Do you have moments where you just can’t write and need to take a break?
What do you think!? Of course. Thats when you either cause drama in your life or go and meditate, quit your job, change country or drink rum on rainy days.

8. What is your long term goal for your music and what do you hope 2016 will play a part in that?
To inspire, to connect, to philosophise, to evoke emotion, to love, to sing, to bond, to be. 2016 is a conduit to more love in the future.

9. What is next for the band?
More love, More Music, More Art, More Question Marks, More Provocation, More Hype,
