DIVINEY
NEW SINGLE & EP – SEX / GAMES
It’s been a long time coming, but a fresh start is about to begin for Shaun Diviney. Leaving behind the punk/pop sensibilities of former band Short Stack, Shaun Diviney has found his niche of rock music infused with influences of RnB and dance.
Finding a common ground in between Diviney’s biggest influences, Blink 182 and Justin Timberlake, is what founded debut solo EP ‘Sex/Games’, released on Monday July 1.
“I wanted to find a place in the middle where I could experiment with both of their musical footprints,” says Diviney. “I think now I’m incorporating a lot of genres that aren’t traditionally mixed with rock into my music to get a sound I really love.”
Title track and single ‘Sex games’ put simply is about love and lust. “The idea behind it lyrically is something I think everyone can relate to, a sort of always wanting more”. Sex Games was the mastermind of Diviney, long-time producer and label co-founder, Trevor Steel and keyboardist Sinj and co-produced by fellow Short Stacker Bradie Webb and mixed by Mark Needham in Los Angeles (The Killers, Pink).
Hotly anticipated by his legion of Australian fans, this record has been almost a year in the making, written and recorded from Sydney to Los Angeles and back, it has a more mature, rockier feel but still with the great songwriting and hooks Shaun is known for from his days in Short Stack.
Short Stack became a phenomenon in Australia exploding on the scene in 2007 notching up countless accomplishments before their demise in 2012. They made the cover of Rolling Stone, headlined at Sydney Opera House and sold out every tour they did. They had two Gold selling Albums, including a debut ARIA #1 plus five top ten singles. They won Channel V’s ‘Artist of the Year’ twice and appeared on Rove, Sunrise, Australia’s Next Top Model, X factor and many more. Their online presence was by far the biggest in the country with over 2 million views on YouTube and 176,000 Facebook ‘likes’.
Diviney uploaded the song “You’re So Cool” as a teaser for his fans on Youtube shortly after the demise of Short Stack. Within twenty-four hours it had gained ten thousand hits. Since then he has stayed in touch with his fans across the world, picking up a large following in the U.K. in the process and constantly top-trending world-wide on Twitter. His January ‘secret shows’ this year quickly sold out as the hunger for his new material increases on the web.
Always on the forefront of technology and excited about forging a new model in the music industry, Diviney has formed his own virtual label, Neon Church Records, along with Trevor Steel, his long time manager. “The old way just doesn’t work for artists, it never has really,” says Diviney. “Now we can communicate directly with our fans and give them what they want.”
Kicking off with a Pledge campaign that reached 100% in 24 hours, ‘Sex Games,’ the Diviney debut is due for release digitally the first week in July.
