Joel Plaskett is a beloved east coast Canadian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose music brings together the energetic melodies and hooks of power pop, the muscle of hard rock, and more intimate singer/songwriter fare. Plaskett’s songs are a perennial part of the national playlist, a fixture on “best of” lists, and the soundtrack to the lives of faithful fans across the country and around the world.
When the YMCA in Vancouver asked Plaskett to play at their “virtual campfire” over the pandemic in 2021, he figured he’d write a song for a real campfire and the real moon above. Written with the beautiful simplicity of three chords, Plaskett started and finished “Hey Moon (A Campfire Song)” 15 minutes prior to recording it for the livestream.
“This version gets kind of rocking for the summer festival stages but it’s basically a folk song at heart,” says Plaskett. “My hope is people will write their own verses for the moon and sing the chorus together.”
Sydney based Indie Pop artist Nikkita has just released her enchanting new single called ‘Horizon’, which was premiered via Scenestr.
“It’s a song about believing there’s something better coming, even when it seems like the world is crashing around you. Like when you’re on a plane flying through a storm, and you’re getting shaken about, but you know if you just keep going, you’ll rise above the clouds eventually and see the blue sky.”
Nikkita on ‘Horizon’
‘Horizon’ feels a bit like another chapter in a lonely story for Nikkita. Much like her first two singles, themes of hyper-independence and a sense of shutting people out weigh heavily in this track, but as always there is an air of hope and defiance.
Emerging seemingly from nowhere in early 2022 with her debut single ‘Looking Up’, Nikkita quickly amassed over 12,000 streams on Spotify. The single was recorded with producer Izaac Wilson (DZ Deathrays, Tia Gostelow, Chillinit, Huskii) at the beautiful Grove Studios.
She then followed up with the release of her single ‘In The Sky’. The single was premiered exclusively via AAA Backstage and received coverage from the likes of AuspOp, The Point Music News, Aus Music Scene, AMNplify, Toasty Tunes and many more.
New single ‘Horizon’ is available on all major online stores and streaming services.
Initially falling in love with music behind the scenes as a producer and songwriter, Liam Benayon finds his voice as a glittery, yet brash pop artist. The pairing of his synth driven dance productions, electronic vocal performances, and background in pure pop lyricism, offer an eclectic sonic experience.
Liam’s new single “Next Chapter” is a cheeky jaunt inspired by a boy obsessively sending him the books he was currently reading. The track originally was shelved, but inspired by feedback from others he decided to fill it out with a blend of pop sub-genre inspo and release it.
