New Music Sunday

Montreal act Ivytide started as the passion project of Nathan Gagné (vocals/guitar) before blossoming into a trio with Jamie Snytte (guitar) and Kyle Ruggiero (bass/backing vocals). Combining their unique influences resulted in the production of bedroom pop songs with intricate but catchy melodies which float on top of well-thought-out instrumentation. Drawing inspiration from creative R&B artists like Frank Ocean and indie artists such as Still Woozy and Clairo, Ivytide developed their trademark indie pop sound.

Ahead of their debut album (slated for release this fall), the trio are sharing its fifth single entitled “please don’t sugarcoat it.” The song encapsulates an unrelenting confusion after being ghosted out of a situationship. Upon reflecting on every action, the protagonist pleads for an uninhibited explanation to such an abrupt ending. A singer-songwriter quality paired with dreamy indie pop instrumentals, catchy melodies and an irresistible groove combine effortlessly to create a bop that’s guaranteed to get stuck in your head.

GROWERS are a four-piece pop punk band from Toronto, ON, known for their upbeat original material and high energy live shows.

Their song, “17 Cigarettes,” was inspired by the struggle of getting older, especially in your late teen years. Transitioning from being a kid, to having a bit more responsibility and independence is tough. Having a moment to contemplate these thoughts over a cigarette break is what the song is about.

As you’re taking a long drag, maybe you’re thinking about all the important choices you have ahead of you – where you might go to school, if you’ll find work, and what sort of impact those choices will have on the course of your life. It’s hard not to think about potential regrets, and how much you will eventually change as the years pass by.

bludnymph’s musical spirit takes shape in the form of a mythological goddess. A young maiden that inhabits rivers and woods, feeding off the love of her mortal followers, she pulls them into a sense of security with her bludsongs. Previously released standout track, “Lights Out,” is the first of many collaborations with powerhouse producer, Cirkut, exemplifying varying degrees of spooky, magic, and sexy – themes prevalent in her music.

New single, “Watch Me,” was written with close collaborator FAANGS and embodies bludnymph’s feeling of being an evil siren by telling the tale of a sexy siren stripper who uses her powers to rob her clientele blind. The song inspires confidence that makes you feel like you can have anything you want with just one look.
