Sarah Brix is a Canadian singer/songwriter multi-instrumentalist performing in the genre of alternative pop. Now based in Toronto, Sarah was born and raised in the picturesque town of Elora before moving to the city to pursue a career in music. She recently graduated from Seneca College for performance, songwriting and music production and since then has performed at multiple Toronto venues such as The Supermarket and Handlebar.

She mainly enjoys writing about mental health and addiction and released her first self-produced single, “Fly,” this past January, which speaks on suicide. Her performance of this song got her second place in the 2024 Songs Revealed songwriting competition. She hopes that by creating songs like this she can help people dealing with depression and anxiety feel less alone, as her favourite artists have done for her.

Sarah’s brand new single, “Ended Here,” tells the story of being ghosted by her best friend and working through the loss and plethora of emotions that she experienced. The song was produced by Columbian producer and mixing engineer JUYI.

Good Group Thanks For Coming wants to take all of the music that they love and blend it together into something new. It’s a music of everything, lovingly curated to share with everyone. They make musical sandwiches, music soup, music pizza; all your favourite music simmered in an indie rock rue and served on a platter from your local dive bar.

It’s a Game,” the band’s innovative and layered latest single, has simultaneous intentions. An ode to gaming, internet humor and learning to cope, the song is loaded with metaphors that liken life to playing games and even has little games written into itself.

Production wise, “It’s a Game” utilizes all three singers of the group sharing lead vocal duties. During a writing brainstorm, they thought of ways to make it more interesting than just trading verses leading to the game style composition. Each chorus expands by an extra line that references the verse that immediately came before it and is inspired by campfire songs like “There’s a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea.”

Stonehocker‘s powerful vocals are the focal point of any show. Accompanied by acoustic guitar, minimalistic electronic beats and samples, the live shows capture the unique, alternative sounds of his music. As a personable and unique individual, Stonehocker puts on a well-crafted performance with songs from his multiple albums.

Stonehocker‘s music is a dialogue of his learning about himself, how to love and forgive himself. The lyrics are an examination of the conflict in his own life. His latest track, “I Am Divided,” is a driving arrangement that speaks to feeling lost in life and conflicted by your own decisions.

Since their inception in 2016, Toronto group Cigar Club has been blanketed under a plethora of categories. Their eclectic sounds branch them into the realm of blues rock, alternative, psych, soul, punk and hard rock; Amassing their myriad of influences to create something truly authentic. The result is a refreshing take on alternative rock, establishing the band as “one of Ontario’s premier alternative rock bands.” (Spill Magazine, 2021).

Upon receiving funding from FACTOR Canada, the band collaborated with JUNO Award-winning engineers Anton Delost (Silverstein, Seaway, Cleopatrick) and Darren McGill (PUP, The Dirty Nil, Arkells) to produce their debut LP, DAY,NOW, in 2021, pushing the boundaries of conventional labels and captivating listeners with their thematic sequencing. In November 2023, Cigar Club released an A/B, “Dark Market/Ocean Potion,” veering deeper into exploratory territory, raising the bar once again as part of a larger project planned for release mid/late 2024.

Their latest single, “Rain,” evolves a melancholic yet beautiful style prevalent in their last recordings and was written as a collaborative effort between the band. Capturing that hazy and contemplative feeling of looking out a window on a rainy day was part of the aesthetic intent of the track. Ultimately, the song does invoke hope with a crescendo to help overcome apathetic malaise.

The song is about meeting apathy with apathy. It was written at a time when I felt disheartened by society’s indifference. Trevor Coughlin (Lead Vox/Rhythm Guitar)

Opeongo is the moniker of Keegan Trumpour and an ever-rotating cast of musicians. Keegan is from Midland, Ontario. Opeongo has released two full-length albums (2019’s Miasma and 2021’s we’ll all go with the will-o’-the-wisp); fall 2024’s Eventual Mt. Lee marks their third release, with a fourth underway in the near future.

Like everything you’ll hear on Eventual Mt. Lee, the mournful single, “Ceiling Rats,” was inspired by the passing of Keegan’s best friend, Liam Steffler; inspired, too, by the beautiful, albeit short, existence he blessed those around him with. At the time of his passing, they were living together in a basement unit on Westmount Avenue in Toronto, Ontario. There was a problem with rats or mice or rodents of some sort in the ceiling in between their unit and the folks on the main floor.

After Liam passed, Keegan was sorting through all of his stuff in the apartment, and he liked to imagine that it was his late pal’s ghost that he was hearing, rather than a bunch of rats roaming around. Not too great at humour amidst intense grief, this song is Keegan‘s self-described “sad attempt” at such.

Snez is the artist name of Ezra Mendel, a hip hop artist from the Annapolis Valley, NS. Snez’s versatile fusion of elements from rock and pop with hip hop and rap are key aspects of his style. As a young teen, he dropped his first two singles which immediately garnered attention in his home town and would be asked to freestyle at parties, leading to being referred to as the “Jewish kid who can actually rap.” He is currently building his local and online audience and working on his first full-length release.

Snez exudes a chameleon-type prowess of musical artistry, showcasing many different styles of hip-hop that heavily emphasizes lyrical ability, cadence and delivery. He strives to combine elements from different genres like rock, pop-punk and country. Snez shares similarities with SonReal, Mac Miller, Logic and Futuristic. Versatility is a key factor to his craft and this encapsulates his identity as a creative.

The inspiration for new single, “Never Enough,” comes from Snez’s regular inner back-and-forth dialogue about his struggle with substance abuse, pride, overthinking and self-worth. He also opted out of working with a professional producer to record, mix and master the track themselves to add a personal and unpolished feel to the raw lyrics.
