4x JUNO nominated singer-songwriter Julian Taylor is sharing “Ain’t Life Strange,” the curious and plaintive new single from his upcoming record, Pathways (out September 27th).
Produced by Colin Linden (Emmylou Harris, Bruce Cockburn, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings), the track was inspired by longing, exuding feelings of sadness, regret, and nostalgia. “It explores the idea of going back in time or at least wanting to go back in time to fix things before they become too broken,” explains Taylor.
Gentle percussion is coupled with saxophone harmonies and acoustic guitar to hug the song’s warm and rhythmic ballad style. “Don’t you wish sometimes that time would stand still? Do you ever wish that time travel was real?” he asks.
Melbourne based Singer/Songwriter Sunset Salore has released her enchanting single ‘Call It’, which premiered exclusively via AAA Backstage.
“This song is about addressing all the little micro-moments in a relationship that don’t stack up anymore, and in that moment, deciding to call time on everything. Essentially, it’s saying, I’ve had enough with the status quo – this isn’t good enough, I deserve better. I wanted this track to convey the assertiveness that comes with that acknowledgement, and to feel powerful in that moment. “
The single is the first offering from her upcoming EP called ‘Love Kills The Monsters’ that is set for release later this year.
Sunset Salore creates an enchanting brand of Alternative Pop, drawing inspiration from the likes of Florence & The Machine, Meg Mac and Baker Boy.
She debuted in 2019 with the release of her stunning single ‘Gold’, mesmerising audiences across Melbourne with her hauntingly beautiful live performance.
After a fresh wave of creative motivation, Sunset Salore recently entered the studio to record her new upcoming EP ‘Love Kills The Monsters’.
New single ‘Call It’ is available on all major online stores and streaming services.
K O D A E‘s blend of alternative R&B is both Bow Valley and Modern Metropolis. Combining their mutual love for modern groove with their connection to nature and mysticism, this group of intergenerational musicians weave songs that strut like breakbeats but flow and warm the heart like a valley stream at sunset. With their different backgrounds, each member brings a unique flavour to the table: Annie da Silva‘s velvety voice and cutting lyrics, Owen Mcpherson‘s gospel roots on the deep five, Seyoung Lee‘s lush jazz textures on the keys, Curtis Sauer‘s ambitious groove on the drums and Eric Osborne‘s fluid harmonies on the guitar.
New single, “Daydreamer,” is a joint release with Calgary’s TAYLR; the solo project of Annie da Silva. A self taught musician and singer-songwriter, they are no stranger to self reflection and deep internal exploration that bold, technicolor songwriting is born from. The hopeful song offers permission to re-invest in your inner creative, inner artist, inner child while really touching on the importance of play and nurturing an imagination without limits.
Sydney based artist Thomas James Mahony has just released his mesmerizing new single and music video ‘Hearts Afire’, which premiered exclusively via Backseat Mafia.
“Hearts Afire is a ballad that celebrates the enduring, prevailing divinity of love for one’s dearest. And proclaims its capacity to overwhelm despair and ostracization despite rifts wrought by time and uncertainty.”
Mahony champions earnestness and channels raw emotion. He artfully creates soulful music with an old-time charm and a contemporary complexion, adding to the sense of timelessness that surrounds his songs.
Mahony debuted in 2023 with the release of his single ‘Rough’. He has since captured hearts and minds with multiple releases. His unique delivery has caught the attention of ARIA chart topping artist Huskii, who will feature Mahony on his new upcoming album.
The multitalented songsmith recently stepped in the studio to record a plethora of new music that he is now ready to unveil.
New single ‘Hearts Afire’ is available on all major online stores and streaming services.
Alternative indie folk singer Rory Taillon (pronounced Tay-lawn) has a voice that needs to be heard. Since 2012, Rory has released three albums and two EPs with his fourth full-length album, Now It’s Quiet, due August 20th.
Trained as a classical singer from a young age, his years of study are evident in the power and control that he has over his voice. He uses his warm guitar tone, haunting lyrics, dynamic voice, layers of looping and the thumping of his kick drum to take the audience on a journey through his set from exhilarating highs to emotional lows.
“Wish You Would Stay” is the second single from his forthcoming LP. Not one to shy away from difficult subjects, his music confronts loss, grief and the struggles of mental health issues.
A Short Walk to Pluto has developed a tremendous social media presence through TikTok and Instagram, where they regularly debut original music and covers of well-known classics. It was through that online presence that the quartet was discovered and endorsed by Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show.
Their enthusiastic new single, “Little Choice,” captures the struggles of ADHD by portraying a conversation between the Id and the Ego.
Think Alanis Morrissette singing in Led Zeppelin but about the struggles of ADHD. The verse lyrics personify the constant struggle to stay focused, while the chorus is your internal voice standing up for yourself. The answering machine recording in the bridge is your internal voice politely telling your ADHD to “fuck off.” We hope “Little Choice” shakes you with a new batch of confidence that’ll help you get a grip with your own internal distractions.
Ways in Waves is the brainchild of Brian Raine, a multi-instrumentalist and music producer living out of Edmonton, Alberta. With malleable form and the spirit of experimentation at its core, the group began as a live duo, and eventually expanded to a five piece live band with Raine picking up vocals as well as guitar and keys parts.
With the latest releases – including the previously released “Who in War” and “Everything Taken” – Raine chose to focus the sound of the project into a tighter, brighter, more aggressive sound. Combining aspects of rock, art-pop, and electronic music together into a mixture that propels the listener through controlled chaos, Ways in Waves are now sharing “Gliese,” from their upcoming LP out this September.
Raine took a lot of influence from hyper-pop on “Gliese,” from IDM artists like Iglooghost and Sophie, not necessarily in the specifics of his sound design but in the bravery that artists of their like exhibit in presenting something boldly. “Gliese” is supposed to feel a bit overwhelming, a bit alien… it embodies the coldness and the unfamiliarity of a future without our home planet.
For Montreal’s Rena Kozak, writing music is a compulsion which is brought to life through her musical project, Child Actress. It’s a cathartic swell that offers a sanctuary to the overbearing nature of our emotions, crafting a liminal space where the feelings we can’t explain are expressed with limitless reverie. “Fruit Flies” is the first single from forthcoming EP, Just Fine Never Better, anticipated on September 27th.
“Fruit Flies” came to her three years after her partner died in his sleep next to her. It was during this phase when she felt like a widow but was beginning to experience an evolution in her philosophies around life and death – reconciling what it could mean to be dead but to still be able to have power, energy, maybe even awareness – considering the ways that her partner still seemed to have so much power, energy, and interaction with her.
Kozak’s mind was also toying with the concept of reincarnation – she had trapped some fruit flies on some sticky tape in her kitchen and as she watched them wiggle and become more entrapped, she found herself wondering who they might have been in their lives before this and who they would be next, and did they know what they were now?
