Morgan Bain
Morgan Bain is talented singer songwriter with a bright future ahead. So read on.
1. For someone unfamiliar with your music, how would you describe your sound?
Soul Blues Rock I think………the plan for the next Album is its going to be a lot more soul influenced, even more so than the current EP What You Believe.
2. Tell us a bit about the process of your most recent recordings at The Wastelands?
We went in quite a bit before making the record with Joel for a lot of pre production to chop and change the songs around so they were record ready, then we started tracking I guess……..just like any other studio. I really love being in the studio, we always have a blast.
3. As far as breakout success is concerned, is it all about the strength of a song or does being in the right musical climate at right time make all the difference?
I think a lot of luck is involved in what we all do in this industry and you just continue to work your arse off and write the best songs you can and hope it comes your way.
4. How important is social media to you in regards to engaging with an audience?
Social media is everything to everybody these days so I think its really important in this industry. Everybody is on either Facebook, Twitter or Instagram etc and it’s a really awesome way to keep in touch with fans and let them know what you’re doing. I don’t know what musicians did before social media came along.
5. What inspired you to take music more seriously?
I always knew that music would be what I would do as a career, there was never any other option for me. Over the past 4-5 years Ive had the advantage of watching a lot of my friends who have been in the industry longer than me and work very hard such as Shaun Kirk, Kim Churchill, Hussy Hicks to name a few and this has helped me in my approach to everything.
6. What’s spinning on your playlist atm? Any guilty pleasures?
No guilty pleasures, just Stevie Wonder, Jon Cleary, The Black Crowes and Gary Clarke Jr etc you knowa ll the good stuff !
7. Are you a fan of keeping the album format alive or do you think there’s more benefit to release singles or EPs with the influence of streaming platforms arguably shortening attention spans?
I think no matter what you do you have to be continuously bringing out new work and have something ready all the time so fans aren’t left hanging. There are a lot of awesome ways to bring out music these days, it’s just whatever suits you I guess but its all expensive for the artist whatever you do. Obviously recording an album is out of alot of artists reach these days as its so expensive. I’ve released 3 EP’s now but plan to do an album next time so I guess that says I believe in keeping the album format alive.
8. When not consumed with all things musical, what do you do tune out or reset?
I surf a lot which is also another challenging thing but calms me down quite a bit……I love it !
9. Your EP ‘What You Believe’ has just been released, what does the immediate future hold?
Lots of touring and selling the record and getting it out to a wider audience! On September 15th I fly out to Germany to Tour Europe with Hussy Hicks and Im hanging out for that at the moment. The single “In The Middle” has just made Amraps Top 10 of the Great Southern Charts so hopefully it gets even more radio play!
10. Lastly, Prince or Michael Jackson?
Couldn’t pick! Both arguably the most talented people on the planet! They are different in so many ways !
