My long time friend Katie Cole is launching a new album and is doing a kickstarter campaign for it. This is what she has to say about it. Get behind it.
Hi, I’m Katie Cole…
Some people know me as a singer-songwriter from Australia living in Nashville. Some people know me as a touring and recording musician in THE SMASHING PUMPKINS. However you know and however you found this project page… Thank you for being here.
It’s been 3 years since I launched my last Kickstarter during the pandemic. And thanks to my lovely fan-MILY, we made lot of good music including “River Flow” and “Young and Stupid” .
ABOUT THIS PROECT “FOREST” 🌲
My music has always been about blending genres together, mixing Americana with Soul and Rock with some classic folk elements. I’ve always tried to add a splash theatrical sound into my music, but you can’t fake that big band sound. It’s always been a dream of mine to record songs with a small ORCHESTRA. This means, strings, woodwind and horns; any combination of these instruments! Together, let’s make a big bold, classic sounding record like Dusty Springfield’s “Dusty in Memphis” or Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”…except it’s me and my kind of Americana music!
I believe I have written the best songs of my career. This includes a couple of songs I co-wrote with John Capek (Rod Stewart, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker…). I’m ready to take these new songs to the next level musically.
Why use an ORCHESTRA?
2020-2022 were some of the most stressful, scary and anxious years of my life. Touring came to a grinding halt and creatively it took everything I had to stay focused and optimistic. After all the stress came so much clarity! Forest is the story of how we probably all felt, experienced and what we overcame!
I’d like to present this project as 2 x EP’s: “Out of the Woods” & “Into the Forest” … that combine to make “Forest.” Big songs need drama…so I have written emotional and uplifting songs that cover:
- Love, Loss, and Relationships
- Anxiety and Obstacles
- Family
- Finding your way
I’ve been obsessed with artists like Dusty, Bobbie Gentry, and 1960’s & 1970’s classic recordings. So let’s bring strings and oboes into Bob Dylan style songs. Let’s weave cellos and trumpets into Joni Mitchell songs. Not every song needs strings or horns, but I don’t want to limit myself. I want to embrace all these textures for many of the songs that deserve these beautiful layers! Let’s do this!!!!
