Jessica Lynn is a talented singer songwriter doing amazing stuff. I knew I had to ask her some questions. This is what she had to say about it all.

- How did you get into music?
Both of my parents are musical and we are now a family band actually, so I always grew up with music on in my house and fell in love with it at a very young age. It was all I ever wanted to do from the time I was about 2 or 3 years old!
- What inspired the new song?
Not Your Woman (Reimagined) was inspired by all of the piano livestreams I did since the pandemic started. When I lost my world tour in 2020 and 2021, I turned immediately to streaming to keep busy and keep happy, honestly. My fans started requesting so many songs including my songs played in different styles, and the Reimagined EP was born that comes on out September 17th!
- How did 2020 help shape your music?
2020 shaped my music in so many ways! I really had to push myself musically and creatively being there were no live performances and I grew so much as a writer and musician, having to learn and play new music each week in my streams and create shows that would be constantly interesting for everyone watching.
- Are you happy how people have responded to the music?
I am beyond grateful for all of the support I’ve had over the years and how my music has been embraced around the world. It’s very surreal sometimes.
- What is the goal for you in 2021?
My goal is to keep growing! It is very difficult in the current climate to keep pushing forward but with a lot of determination and hard work I know I can.
- How does a song start for you?
A song starts out of pure emotion for me. I am not the type of writer that can sit down and say I want to write a song. I really have to feel something to begin so it normally starts with me experiencing something in life or witnessing it through someone else.
- Do you write when you have inspiration or set time to write?
I do both! I write when I have inspiration, including just writing down little tidbits of songs that I will use when I set down time to write.
- What do you think needs to happen to get gigs back to some normality?
I think people need to learn to live with the virus. I am not sure that it will ever go away unfortunately. I hope I am wrong, but I don’t feel that we can be in hiding forever and that we need to return to live as safely and conscientiously as possible.
- How did it feel to record a live show for PBS?
It was so incredible to record all three of my tv specials for PBS! They are what jump started my whole career and will forever play a very special part in my story.
- Who has been your favorite person you have played with?
Richard Marx. He was my very first concert when I was 5 years old and it was such an amazing full circle moment for me. Very emotional to think about how far I’ve come.
- How do you warm up before playing for a show?
I do a 35 minute vocal warmup as well as sing through several of the more challenging songs. It makes me feel very comfortable before I hit the stage and prepared.
