Jackie Brown Jr Interview

Jackie Brown Jr

These cats are a really cool and I dug what I heard so I knew had to give them some Parx-e love, so Maddy Mallis from the band answered my questions.

1. What was the inspiration behind the new song?

IDK is a song about wanting to be something you’re not. It came from this idea of wanting to be a little cooler, and a bit more hardcore than I really am.

2. What inspires you when writing music?

I find a challenge in trying to find inspiration from anything, be that from a weird sentence I’ve overheard or from a riff that’s be stuck in my head for days. The song “Don’t Trust Apes” came from Gideon daydreaming about Planet of the Apes, and then out of nowhere he said, “hey Maddy you should write a song called “Don’t Trust Apes”. It took a bit to figure out why we didn’t trust them.

3. What buzz do you get from playing live?

Playing live is so much fun! There’s such a buzz when you’re up there and you can see the crowd responding to your music and dancing. It’s like all your hard work comes out into this real tangible thing. It’s so encouraging, and we have a lot of fun on stage together working off each other.

4. Do you have any thing you do before you play live?

I think I need to start working on my odd pre-show habits.

5. Is an album in the works?

Yeah, that is definitely a next major goal of ours. We’ve already started working on the signature perfume it will come with, it’s what all the bands are doing these days.

6. What can people expect from your show?

You can expect a lot of dancing, booty shaking and banter. We just have a mad time on stage and we hope you have one too!

7. If you could collaborate with any one who would it be?

Hands down Courtney Barnett. She’s my absolute musical idol, her writing is so simple yet so clever.

8. If you could have anybody in a video clip who would it be?

A cameo by Quentin Tarantino, rocking the USC Banana Slug shirt.

9. What does the rest of 2015 have in store for you?

A lot of gigs, and lot more writing. We’ve had a huge break since I’ve been in North America for 6 months and we are all very keen to get playing and recording again.
