Interview With Gabriel Mann By Chris 28/7/06
Gabriel Mann is a great american singer
songwriter.
Who write and plays really good tunes.
So naturally an Interview had to be done..
So read the interview and then check out his music.
1. How did you get into music?
Started playing piano in 3rd grade. Quit because the
teacher would smack my hands when I hit wrong notes.
Started up again a few years later when I saw a friend
playing cover songs, surrounded by girls.
2. Who were your idols growing up?
Elton John, Billy Joel. At that time, pretty much the
only rock stars who played piano.
3. Who were your influences?
Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Jonatha Brooke, Tool, Peter
Gabriel.
4. Are you happy with the responses from the latest
release?
Very happy. So far no returns!
5. What have responses been like to your music on the
web?
They only show me the positive ones, so it seems like
everybody thinks I’m the greatest thing since Duran
Duran.
6. Has the Internet helped with your music?
Well, it’s helped more people around the world listen to
it, if that’s what you mean. Yes.
7. Do you think tools like MySpace are useful?
Absolutely. Instant access to all my fans and
more.
8. Who you would most like to tour with?
Well, I opened for Alanis Morissette last year, and that
was fantastic. Before that I’d’ve said that’d be a
dream gig, and it still would be to do it again. But
I’d love to open for Sting, or Peter Gabriel, or the
Counting Crows.
9. If you could work with any one who would it
be?
Elvis Costello.
10. Do you think Weed is good music tool for getting
your music out their?
If you’re referring to marijuana, probably not. Weed
mostly just makes you lazy. But it sounds like you’re
referring to something else I’m not familiar with. (Note
from Chris) I am referring to WeedShare
11. Have you had much response from radio?
Haven’t really gone out to radio yet, so I’m not sure what
their response is going to be when we do.
12. What has been your favorite gig to date?
Might’ve been a show here in L.A. opening for Jamie Cullum
at the El Rey Theater.
13. Are you happy to have your music used in movies and
television?
Yes indeed. I’ve had considerable luck in that
department, and hope to more in the future. I’ve
written lots of songs specifically for television and film,
and it’s a great way to earn an income as an artist.
14. Have you had much response from labels regarding
your music?
I’ve been courted by several labels, but none of them went
the distance with me. Not sure whether that’s
unfortunate or fortunate…
15. What is on your stereo at the moment?
Katy Perry.
16. What are some of your favorite musical
artists/bands?
Adrianne, Garrison Starr, Jay Nash, Tristan Prettyman, Joe
Purdy, Jonatha Brooke, Postal Service, Muse.
17. What has been the highlight of your career so
far?
Opening for Alanis Morissette on her European tour last
year.
18 Who have you has helped you out the
most?
My family.
19. What inspires you when writing music?
My family, and my friends, and quiet isolation.
20. How did the recording process go for the latest
release?
We recorded basic tracks (piano, drums, and bass) live in
the studio, then added other instruments and overdubs, then
mixed. Pretty simple stuff, but worked well I
think.
