1. Are you happy how things have gone so far for you?

Absolutely! We’ve been around for just over a year now and the support has been huge – almost scarily so. We never expected Cull would take off like this – we’re probably in debt to a lot of people.

2. What inspires you now when writing music?

I think it’s pretty standard for a shoegaze band to use new sounds that are found from fiddling with guitar pedals or by just acquiring new gear to help in the inspiration process. Thematically though I think I’m starting to write songs about my relationship with songwriting, almost treating “songwriting” as its own entity.

3. What do you love about touring?

We’re a rock team, so it’s super easy to enjoy touring. Being able to bring our team to meet other teams and to show how much of a team we are to new people is always so rewarding.

4. Who have you enjoyed playing with recently?

A few like-minded groups have us swooning: Miners, Zone Out, Cassette Cathedral and Kigo. We’ll be playing a show with Made in Japan and Bad Jeep soon and we’re super fond of them too. A while ago we played with sleepsmakeswaves and it’d be great to play with them again, too.

5. What your favorite venue to play at?

There a quite a few in Sydney, but one that we were surprised by recently was The Den in Wollongong. Easy load-in, great sound for our music and plenty of stage room. Plus it’s run by some total champs, so we recommend it.

6. What do you hope people get out of your shows?

A non-threatening level of tinnitus. And hopefully a few sounds that warrant a peek at our pedalboards. Also, some really nice dad jokes from Alex.

7. If you could work with anybody who would it be?

Rather than a musical collab, we’d like to hit up a video collab with J.J. Abrams. We think we’ve got a lot in common.

8. What does 2014 have in store for the band?

We have an EP launch coming up on Saturday Feb 15 at Goodgod with Made in Japan and Bad Jeep supporting. Laurenz from PVT has done a remix of our track World Inside Your Head, and we’re making a pretty spacious video clip for another song, too. Other than that, we’ll be stringing together shows to carry the EP further and are currently putting together some preproduction for EP 2.
