Charter 77 Interview

Charter 77

Luke Answers My Questions

Charter 77

1.how did the band form?

I don’t know how the original line-up formed, but
the current and longest lasting line-up formed by Red (Bass) and Paul
(Guitar) coming to Joel’s (Singer) house for a party. Red got drunk and got
on a table and asked if anyone wanted to join a band, Joel said yes and said
that I knew how to play drums (even though I was playing guitar in another
band at the time) and in the span of a few weeks we learnt about 10 songs
and were playing gigs. Badly I must admit!

2.what were your major influnces?

Way too many beers at rehearsal! We
would come up with really stupid songs. The good thing about stupid songs
though is if people are laughing at the shows they will wanna keep watching.
I think we are taking a more serious approach now though with a slightly
more hardcore influence on our songwriting. If I made a list of bands that
have influenced us it would probably take up 3 pages, so I won’t.

3.if you could have a three band bill who would they be?

I think the bands that the whole band would agree on would be Blood For Blood and the
Dropkick Murphys.

4. what music do you class yourselves as?

Well on the back of our new
tshirts it says “Oi! – Punk – Hardcore”, sounds a bit lame but I guess
that’s how you would describe us.

5. where do you think you will be in 10 years?

Well we’ve lasted 3 years so I guess it can only get better from here, hopefully Joel and Paul will
get off their arses and get passports so we can tour overseas. We should
have a few albums under our belts in 10 years.

6. what has been your best gig you have played so far?

They keep getting better. The tour we did with Nada Surf was fun every
night. We played Pittsburgh when I was really sick and I spent most of the
show just talking really slowly and deadpan about the history of the city of
Pittsburgh and I thought I was hysterical, so that show was a highlight for
me. My bandmates all thought it sucked, though.

7. what made you want to go out and play music?

I learnt guitar at an
early age and I guess it took off from there, everyone likes to show off!

8. what your fav type of beer?

Personally I like Newcastle Brown Ale or Coopers Export Ale, but VB or Carlton Draught are good thirst quenchers.

9. who would most like to record a song with?

As far as a producer goes? The guy who has done our latest stuff is just awesome, that is Renae at
Westforce Studios altona, check it out at
http://www.mp3.com.au/artist.asp?id=13061 Apart from that early next year I
should have a fully setup studio, I like to spend alot of time on the
recordings myself.
