This is her new song Skinny and these are her words.
My little shameful secret is that I feel my life would be better if I were skinny. I imagine a different version of myself in every bar, on every stage, with every date: shinier, funnier, better, because I’m thin. That’s what I wrote “Skinny” about; it’s an embarrassing, personal testimonial to how fat phobia has crept into my mind and built a wall around my confidence.
But I’m releasing “Skinny” because I want to deconstruct that wall. I’m sick of caring about the cellulite on my legs. I want to eat pizza at 2 AM on a stoop with my friends and love the body that comes with that. I want to say goodbye to the vision I have of this confident, thin woman; she seems wonderful, but she’s not me.
Make sure to listen to, save, and share “Skinny” today; I hope by putting these thoughts out into the world, some of us will feel a little less alone.
