‘SINNERS AND SAINTS’

The sophomore album ‘Sinners and Saints’, is an effortless blend of soul, blues, reggae and acoustic folk. Benny Walker’s intimate, eloquent song-writing is complemented by a rich, soulful voice speaking of the trouble, strife and the wonder of everyday life. It is this voice that recently earned him the Victorian Indigenous Performing Arts Award for Best New Talent 2012, Arts Cultural Australia Day Murray Shire Council Award and a 2011 Deadly Award nomination for Most Promising New Talent in Music.
Recorded at Yikesville with ARIA award winning producer Shane O’Mara (Tim Rogers, Lisa Miller, The Audreys), ‘Sinners and Saints’ is a 14 track long player set for release on February 15th, 2013.
With minimal instrumentation there is an honesty felt in lead single ‘Woman’ that flows throughout the album,
Inheriting his passion for music from his father and his grandfathers, all talented musicians in their own right, Walker formed his first band at the tender age of 12. Cutting his teeth on classic blues, surf and folk before finding his own voice in the raw honesty of acoustic roots music.
Walker recorded his first EP, ‘No Cares’, in 2007, and then took nine months out to travel around Eastern and Central Australia. He came home with a pocket full of songs and a determination to share his music with the world.
Self-titled debut album, ‘Benny Walker’, was produced by Kalju Tonuma and released in 2008 and followed by 2010 EP, ‘Summer Sun’, which embraced the bigger, lusher sound that characterised his live full-band shows.
‘Sinner And Saints’ takes it again to another level; with Walker’s intuitive, heartfelt songwriting and soulful voice leaving no doubt that he means every word that he sings.
Hailing from regional Victoria, Walker has performed alongside some of Australia’s finest including Archie Roach and Vika and Linda Bull as well as performing at some of the countries finest festivals: St Kilda Festival, NAIDOC (Crown Casino), Nannup Music Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, 2012 Australasian World Music Expo and making his international debut with a stand-out tour of Canada.
