Bec Laughton
Bec Laughton is the most exciting artist to come out of Australia in a long time, she has a voice and songs that make you stand up ad take notice, this girl has got something special, I loved her EP and think she is doing something totally amazing. She is gonna be huge. She is one of my favorite discoveries of last year.
1. How did did you get into music?
I was raised in a very musical family. My sister became a dancer and I the singer. My brother … well you he turned out like Steve Irwin lol.
I wrote the single Girl By the Fire while I was in East Hackney, London. I had just been through a time where I was just exhausted of always pushing. I think we all come to that place at times, especially if you are a dreamer. The EP as a whole is very fun and bouncy though like my usual flow.
Yes we’ve had a great response to the new EP ‘By the Fire’, Indie Clip of the Week on Rage ,#1 on the Triple J Roots Charts, QMA Award, Independent Music Award (USA) and just found out this morning (Interview done on Friday Feb 8th) I am in the semi-finals for the International Songwriting Competition!
Hard question. I just played my first show in NYC. That would be one of my fave. I nearly cried.
5. How has touring helped you as an artist?
Touring is a great way for people to fall in love with you. Lol it’s one thing for them to see you on YouTube or hear your CD … but when they see you live, they get the real deal.
6. What is the scene like where you live?
Brisbane music scene is small but amazing. Some incredible talent here and lots of love. The perfect place to call home.
7. How does social networking help you as an artist?
Social networking is the number one marketing tool. The best way to share and the best way to find.
8. How do you think connecting with your fans helps you as an artist?
I write music to be listened to so fans are the most important part. Just to hear that a song has changed even one life for the better makes it all worth while. I want to speak hope and joy into people. And Love. Love is good too.
What’s next is a bit of a secret. And there’s a lot of very soon ‘nexts’. To do with recording, Texas and Germany.
Being an independent artist is hard work but very fulfilling. Being in the deep end you grow and learn very quickly.
Gotye lol
Holy Love 😉
