Amanda Rogers Answers My Questions
1.what made you want to go out and play music?
well, i had played classical piano since i was 6 years old, and when i was in highschool, i realized that i liked putting my own twist on the songs.
piano teachers dont like that. so, i started writing my own songs, and at the time i listened to pop/emo stuff (sorry to categorize music) so that was the kind of shows i would play.
well, i actually did play some shows with those “girls on guitar” and realized quickly that i didn’t quite fit in.
anyway, after playing all these punk shows and rock shows and basement shows, i knew that i would love nothing more than to go on tour in a big ugly van and play crazy shows, and sleep on floors and skip showers, etc. i was accepted to berklee college of music (in boston) and didn’t go because i knew that that would take me in a different direction with my music. i enjoy pouring my heart out to kids that feel a little out of place, like myself.
2.what were your major influnces?
i’ve had this question many times, but i really think that everything influences everybody and everything. movies, personal situations, where i live, friends, strangers, family, music my parents listened to, music i listened to growing up, classical music, music when your stuck in an elavator, music when you are put on hold over the phone, music someone else is listening toway too loud in the car next to you…..it all affects something, someone, my thoughts, my songs.
i like being affected and influenced by everything. thats living.
3.any chance of coming down under?
>oh, i would love to sometime. i’ll be in europe in january, so you never know..
4. have you had much interest from overseas since the release of the album?
well, yes sort of. a label out of greece actually decided they wanted to have a european release of my cd in september and they are the ones taking care of my tour that will most likely be in january.
i occasionally get emails from kids overseas as well.
5. where do you think you will be in 10 years?
who knows, i just try to do as much as possible right now. i guess that i hope in ten years, my music will still be surviving on an independent level and i would have already quit my time-consuming day job and touring most the time. oh, and hopefully have a songs and some independent film. ? .
6. what has been your best gig you have played so far?
well, to be honest, i always much prefer the dirty basement shows to anything else. its small, dark, and personal. those shows seem to be the most memorable as well. i did have this show in CT that was tape by mtv2…..but i still like my beasement and livingroom shows. i think shows to brag about, would be last years and this years Parfest in albany. i wont do any namedropping.
7. what are you listening to at the moment?
godspeed you black emperor! , mogwai, explosions in the sky, death cab for cutie, blood brothers, broken social scene, murder by death, mars volta.
8. if you could have any one in a band who would they be?
the kids that are in my side project band, or if i had to pick someone already well known, i would say….anyone on saddlecreek records, anyone on costellation records and thom yorke.
9. who would most like to record a song with?
hmmm…tim kasher of cursive. ? . maybe cyndi lauper. ? . tough question! i would love to make music with anybody really. im used to just doing it all myself, so it would be a refreshing change.
10. is your album released in australia?
probably, im not quite sure. if not, there are many ways to get it online.
