I’ve known Alexa Borden like forever it feels like. Her project Superneuva with it’s debut song Moon/Wash is excellent. She is doing amazing stuff and new material on the way. Had to give her more love on my site.
The self-coined phrase “Dark magik disco baby” is exactly the type of disorienting energy that electropop concept artist Superneuva wants to generate. The vision- conjured by Canadian singer/songwriter, composer and producer Alexa Borden– was lingering for years but only came to fruition in Spring 2022. Since the split of her band in 2017, Borden craved a different atmosphere for her work and deeply yearned to reinvent herself. Over the years, she struggled to identify who this person would be or the story they would tell. But on the brink of quitting music for good amidst some of the bleakest days of her life, Superneuva was able to emerge from the darkness.
Though not a far cry from Borden’s long-standing self-titled project, Superneuva emphasizes space and simplicity to let the clever metaphors and brooding pop melodies take centre stage. Borden’s inspiration is an intoxicating brew of influences ranging from Billie Eilish to Glass Animals, all the way to classic 80’s dance hits and retro cinema. The resulting flavour is an imaginative and breathable take on modern pop music. Black magic love songs, lonely asteroid belt motels and fiery neon galaxies are all moments you can expect to encounter on your journey with Superneuva.
Jordy Benattar has an amazing new song out called Cheers. It’s a really great tune written by Jordy. The moment I heard it I was hooked. It’s out now at all good digital retailers including her own site and the bandcamp link below
Both amazing talents worthy of your time. Both amazing Canadian artists that you should get around
