1.How did you get into music?
I’ve always loved music. My mom was a piano teacher so I fell into it at a really young age.

2.What inspired the song The Maze?
Honestly, this one was a bit of a different vibe for me. I got to a point where I wanted to stop taking writing sessions so serious and have more fun. I had never done a four on the floor track and thought we should try it and I suppose this is what happened. The EP is a lot more playful and positive then any of my previous stuff. I’m super pumped about it.

3. Were you happy how it has been received?
It’s only been out for a few days and i’m an independent artist so i’m expecting the song to take a little while to gain some traction. I do know when we play it live the crowd goes wild. That’s always a good sign.

4.How does a song start for you?
I love a good bass line. Once I hear a bass and a good beat I can start melodies. From there I just start to sing some random lyrics…whatever comes to my mind and we will shape those melodies into lyrics that reflect the emotion of the melody.

5.Where do you get your inspiration from?
Mostly from life experience or just weird things that have happened to me.

6.Has your songwriting changed from when you were starting out?
Definitely, when i started out I mostly just wrote on piano or with an acoustic guitar. Now i write with another co-writer and a producer usually. I have a really hard time staying focused on something by myself. I start to second guess and question things and then want to do something else. But if you’re working with other people they can really help you stay focused and accountable for finishing the song. lol

7.What has been the best piece of advice you have given about your music career?
DON’T QUIT

8. What do you love about your local scene?
I recently moved to Vancouver. It’s a very small market but there are a lot of really talented people who are living out there who are also super supportive. I spent a lot of years living in Toronto and working out of that city so i feel like Toronto is more my local scene since i’m still back and forth so often.

9. Do you have set theme for your music or does it go with the flow and changes?
It’s very playful and sexy. I find my music usually reflects how I am in a certain time in my life.

10. Do like to write without inspiration or distractions or do you need a bit of both?
I think you def need some kind of inspiration to write something. Even if it’s coming from a higher power ….i know it sounds a little strange but sometimes I go into a writing session thinking i’m going to suck or have no good ideas…but then it will just come to me. You have to listen to your inner voice sometimes.

11. How important is having a plan in place for your music?
You need a plan in order to do anything in life. I mean, sometimes its fun to not have a plan….but when it comes to releasing music you really need to have everything planned months/even years in advance.

12. How important is your brand Dani Le Rose?

You should be able to get a feeling for what the artists music sounds like just by seeing a picture of them. If it isn’t doing that, then you’re not branding properly. It took me years to cultivate my brand. I’m really into fashion and art and get inspired by a lot of icons from the 70s /50s. I love to combine all of those things:)
