Brisbane based Alt Rock Maestro John Drake has just released his sublime new single ‘Descending Love’, which premiered exclusively via The AU Review.
“Descending Love was written as a subconscious premonition of my now fiancé. I wrote it about six months before I met her, I didn’t know who it was about at the time. I was lying in the bed of my cold London flat, having awoken from this dream that I really couldn’t explain, it was this feeling that descended upon me. Almost like a silhouette of a person which evolved into an imagination of this person that would come into my life and change my life forever, and that was her.”
‘Descending Love’is the latest offering from Drake’s upcoming debut album release called ‘Separation Songs’, set for release in 2026. The album was recorded with
ARIA-winning engineer Cody McWaters and longtime friend/producer Chass Guthrie. He unveiled the first offering from the album, Ocean earlier this year.
John then followed up in July with the release of his single Siren, which premiered via The AU Review. The single gained airplay on over 200 radio stations worldwide, including rotation on ABC Country. Most recently, John released his single Running On Empty (Back To The Man). The single was premiered via
ABC Country and quickly gained rotation on MMM Country.
New single ‘Descending Love’ is available on all streaming services.
“Siren has a broad, lush cinematic soundscape. The melancholy nature of the tale is nestled within some beautiful musicianship. His vocals have a clarity and honesty that is gripping, the percussion is neat and tight, and the intensity has just the right amount of light and shade. There’s elements of sweet soulful Americana threaded throughout.”
Bruce Baker – The AU Review
“The track is a raw and heartfelt story about breaking free from a loveless relationship…Its powerful lyricism captures the struggle of being pulled back into cycles of despair before ultimately finding the strength to move on.”

Toronto-based troubadour John Muirhead returns with his anticipated new album, The Nomad, out now alongside the lead single, “Everything, Everywhere.” A record rooted in the restless beauty of “inbetween-ness,” The Nomad captures Muirhead’s reflections on love, heartbreak, wanderlust, homesickness, nostalgia, and self-discovery. “These in-betweens are where we ask big questions and begin to really understand ourselves,” Muirhead says.
Recorded at Echo Plant Studio in Port Coquitlam, BC with producer Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, Luca Fogale, MONOWHALES), the album sees Muirhead stepping into his most mature songwriting yet. With contributions from close collaborators including Jon Bryant and Zach Zanardo, The Nomad is both expansive and intimate – a meditation on chasing dreams while longing for stability.
The lead single, “Everything, Everywhere,” co-written with Ryan Worsley and Jon Bryant over Zoom, is a cathartic exploration of love’s lasting tether – the way a person inhabits every corner of your life, in joy and in grief.
