As a deluge of artists seek to be the next digital flash in the pan, Semiah is a breath of fresh mountain air. She’s as at home on stage – where she’s spent 20 of her 25 years – as she is chopping firewood or on an urban dancefloor in bejeweled glam. Regularly showered with encores and standing ovations for her live performances, Semiah moves effortlessly from intimate solo club shows to large soft seater theatres accompanied by dancers and musicians. Like a flirty dervish story-teller who can tear your heart out with side eye giggle, she has the uncanny ability to etch herself into the souls of swooning concert goers. But don’t let the playful cowgrrl edge fool you – she has more spiritual depth than most twice her age.

Latest single, “Withdrawals,” is an electro pop punk love-gone-wrong song co-produced with Montreal collaborator Teleh0rn. Production features include traditional Haudenosaunee vocal techniques and innovative metallic elements that align with the accompanying video’s Katana sword fight choreography. Glittering pink characters step out of the snowy Alberta mountains like an indigenous Charlie’s Angels with a warrior punk anime edge. Semiah produced, directed, choreographed, edited and created the wardrobe for the video which serves as a small snapshot of a larger storyline that she hopes to make a feature film. Montana Summers stars as the Villain with Katie Couchie as the Purple Spy.

Townsville based Indie/Punk Rockers Poison Oak are back again with the release of their anthemic new single ‘Tell Me’, which premiered exclusively via
AAA Backstage. The single is the second offering from their upcoming album release.

“Tell Me is a song about asking where someone has gone, not necessarily in a physical sense, but in a spiritual and mental sense. They’re present, but not the person they used to be. The song reflects on the struggles they have experienced, feeling trapped in a cycle of routine and disconnection within the suburbs, where everything looks familiar but feels empty. Dealing with the pressures of everyday life, like expectations from family or society, while facing internal struggles that others don’t see. Hence leaving them to be disconnected from who they once were.”

The band recently released their single and music video ‘Wasted’, which was the first offering from their forthcoming sophomore LP – recorded with Brock Weston (BugsBeddy RaysDune Rats). The release was premiered via The AU Review and received positive coverage from HEAVY MagGood Call LiveAMNplify and many more. The band then went on to support Australian heavyweights DZ Deathrays in October.

“With sweet, jangly guitars, it hits just the right arc of upbeat emotive rock, with an infectious melody running through its veins. Rousing drums and guitars riffing into the final stanza, will make this an absolute belter live.”
Bruce Baker – The AU Review

New single Tell Me’ is available on all major online stores and streaming services.

Singer-songwriter Tara Van of Toronto is sharing a blend of chamber folk and pop entitled “Things I Wanna Say,” a horn inflected and subtly percussive dance with the vulnerability that can arise when your feelings present themselves before you’re necessarily ready to share or feel certain about them.

Produced by Mark Calderone, “Things I Wanna Say” glides along gently, evoking the feeling of a summer breeze as Van explores the feeling of trying to protect yourself along with the playfulness and competition between partners during the stand off of “who exposes themselves first.”

Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Sarah Kabbani has just released her infectious new single called ‘Losing You’. The track balances infectious beats with introspective depth, capturing the bittersweet tension of an intense but unattainable love and the strength needed to walk away.

“Losing You captures the heart-wrenching experience of being with someone behind closed doors who is already in a relationship, highlighting the thrill and danger of a connection that feels both irresistible and forbidden. This track is not just about losing someone; it’s about the strength it takes to walk away from something beautiful yet unattainable. Join me on this journey of love, lust, and letting go.”

Self-taught and genre-blending, Sarah Kabbani combines elements of Pop, Dance and Indie Electro to achieve her infectious sonic.

Through honest writing of individual personal memoirs, Stonehocker crafts songs that explore and express the pain and joys of life. In a society where mental health issues have become even more prevalent, his goal is to be open, honest and inspire people to have the courage for self-discovery. The musical journey began in a small northern Alberta town and can be traced through the lyrics of the four full-length albums that have been released. Today, the music finds life through Stonehocker‘s sparse Calgary home studio that has slowly come to be.

His vocals are the focal point of the show – complemented by acoustic guitar, underlined by minimalistic beats with samples placed throughout to highlight each song’s alternative edge. All the samples come straight from the recorded music, making Stonehocker’s shows custom and unique. His latest releases are the culmination of years of songwriting and many live shows. Throwing caution to the wind, Stonehocker has poured out his soul and committed everything to the goal of getting their music to those who want to listen.

Latest offering, “Take Everything,” is a purposefully sparse song that allows the emotional vocals and lyrics to take focus. It continues the songwriter’s vein of self discovery and acceptance of what you find. “When I wrote those words, ‘Take Everything,’ it’s like a weight being lifted,” Stonehocker explains. “My burdens broke me. It was inevitable, yet I’m still here to sing this song; because I surrendered.”

Heather Avalon is a 22-year-old independent singer-songwriter living in Toronto, ON who has been singing since she could speak and writing since the young age of six. Her mother, Allyson Morris, is a Toronto jazz musician who shaped Heather’s life through the art of music. Starting to play piano when she was seven followed by guitar at 10, and Heather would often perform at local bars alongside her mom while she was growing up.

Over the past three and a half years, she has been in and out of the studio writing, recording, and creating as much as possible. Two years since her last release, Heather is coming back even stronger with her new single, “Use Me,” inspired by past heartbreak. Despite consistently making a lot of indie/bedroom pop music in her early days of recording and releasing, she wanted to take the turn from polished pop to a more high energy, rough, rock sound which is exactly what can be heard on “Use Me.”

Use Me” was recorded with Heather’s best friend and producer Ethan Surman (later including more friends on background vox) which allowed her to really be vulnerable and comfortable in the studio and throughout the recording process.

Use Me” was inspired by moments of weakness in regards to an ex-partner. The song showcases that no matter how far removed from someone you may be, being single can get lonely and sometimes, as human beings, we crave the comfort and validation from a person so much that we allow them to use us.
