Toronto’s Alex Southey is sharing an exploratory new EP of singer-songwriter tracks in collaboration with producer Alex Gamble and saxophonist Ben Dwyer.

Entitled Entertainers Bring May Flowers Collection, the EP features focus track, “Athletes,” a contemplative and brooding piece inspired by power dynamics and careerism. The lilting acoustic piece features eerie effects that are juxtaposed with the delicate melodies of Dwyer’s saxophone playing.

“I wanted the album to sound human, where you can hear some edits, and some songs are lo-fi and others are hi-fi. This was achieved by recording and mixing and mastering some of the songs myself in my room, and recording and mixing and mastering other songs with a professional producer [Gamble],” Southey explains of the EP’s ranging textures.

Alex Southey began his career as a solo acoustic artist in 2019. With each subsequent release, he has developed an increasingly passionate fanbase, along with positive recognition, play, and coverage from CBC Radio, Exclaim! Magazine, Dominionated, Canadian Beats, NXNE, Wintersong Festival, Tinnitist, The Sound Cafe, CHCH Morning Show, and a slew of Canadian college radio stations.

Toronto’s Good Group Thanks for Coming is a band made up of a group of friends who each from different musical backgrounds. They combine their talents to create all of your favourite music simmered in an indie rock rue and served on a platter from your local dive bar.

The band’s new single, “La Da Da Yeah,” is an upbeat and thundering alt/indie rock song which is about smiling through life’s problems while you willfully ignore them. Shifting from aggression into glittering indie rock, Good Group Thanks for Coming leans into the frustration, sarcasm, and duality of this song’s themes.

Band member Emily Morse explains that “La Da Da Yeah” is, “ultimately, a song about saying ‘fuck it.’ I wrote it at a time where there was a lot going wrong in my life that I felt powerless to change. The song sounds upbeat but it’s also a list of terribly hurtful things and the more hurtful things I list, the more upbeat the song gets. I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. I wrote this song, not just as my own outlet, but so that we can all commiserate together.”

After a 10 year vanishing act, JUNO-nominated roots rockers Cuff The Duke‘s comeback album, Breaking Dawn (out September 6th), reflects frontman Wayne Petti‘s process of coming to terms with his mental health, capturing the various stages of his journey. The musical interludes throughout the record serve as a representation of the ever-present anxiety that Petti has learned to navigate. At the same time, the songs themselves offer a sense of relief and catharsis.

On the record’s nostalgic new single, “Leaving It All Behind,” Petti comes to terms with his decision to put the band on hiatus, which meant abruptly not playing music anymore and how that left him scrambling to figure out his next move.

Newcastle based Alt Rockers Grub are back again with the release of their explosive new single ‘Mights & Maybes’. The single was premiered exclusively via AAA Backstage

“It’s about the feeling of a lack of achievement, blowing off opportunities to stay at home in your safe space and never taking the leap to do what you want to do. It’s also the potential feeling of regret as you look back through your life as it’s finished and the speculation of how you’re remembered by the people around you as they grow old. It’s something we felt was quite a common feeling amongst most people and it’s something that hits home for us.”

The lads have also announced the release of their highly anticipated EP ‘Pulling Teeth’ (set for release on August 30.)

Grub recently dropped their new single and music video ‘Pulling Teeth’, which was premiered via The Point Music News. The single, which is the title track form their upcoming EP, has received airplay on over 100 radio stations worldwide.

New single ‘Mights & Maybes’ is available on all major online stores.
