A true Renaissance man, Lyle Kam has spent the past four years bridging the gap between creativity and engineering – writing, producing, and mixing his music, while also studying engineering at the University of Waterloo. Now as he turns his attention full time to creativity, he hopes to shine a light on Asian-Canadian artists and inspire others with his message that nothing is out of reach with enough passion and hard work. He also hopes to never actually have to use his engineering degree.

His sentimental song, “isn’t it funny,” was the outcome of conflicting feelings he had with being a musician: having to travel but also the anxiety of traveling alone, and unraveling the reasons and meaning behind that apparent dichotomy.

Down And Out have just released their explosive new single and music video called ‘Cyclone’, which was premiered via AAA Backstage.

The band have also announced a local single launch on 26 August at Enigma Bar alongside SoSoOffset Vision and Left On Seen

“The song and video for Cyclone are a dual metaphor, referencing two very different concepts at the same time. In writing the song we didn’t want it to be a simple and overplayed “boy likes girl” sort of thing. Cyclone is about that; it’s about that person that’s in your life from time to time, and every time they are it just fucks you up as you become enamoured of them even though you know nothing will ever happen between you. At the same time it’s also about the desire to be in a successful, touring band.“

Down And Out formed in 2018 and have since dropped multiple releases, amassing a devoted fan base in the process whilst touring across the country. They are renowned for their energetic brand of music featuring fast, punchy verses and anthemic, catchy choruses.

At the end of 2021, Down And Out flew to Sydney to team up with legendary producer Stevie Knight  (Stand AtlanticRedHook) to record their single ‘Sidelines’.

‘Sidelines’ clocked up thousands of streams across Spotify and YouTube in a very short period of time and was added to the coveted ‘Local Noise’ playlist.

New single ‘Cyclone’ is available on all major online stores and streaming services.
