Theo Tams is rediscovering his identity as an artist and diving into fresh sonic waves. Late in 2020 he started releasing a string of new singles that demonstrate a remarkable command of R&B-laced pop music, his silky tenor the unwavering guiding light. Those singles have received over 400k cross-platform streams and have been featured on a number of editorial playlists at Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.

Theo is now following up with new single, “Quit U Love,” which concludes Trilogy II – the second of his 3-part Trilogy EP series. “Quit U Love” is a deeply personal song for Theo:

When I wrote “Quit U Love,” I was at the height of my alcohol addiction; it had become this very abusive relationship that I just didn’t know how to leave. I reached a moment of clarity where I started to see my addiction for what it was. I got up early the next morning and recorded the demo – this was the song that really started my journey into sobriety, which is where I am now.

It was important for me to be honest because this song was written during active addiction, not afterwards when the mess was cleaned up. There is a really chill ease to the music –  I wanted the melody and the production to completely juxtapose the subject matter.

Recorded at Heliport Studios in Buderim, Queensland with the help of producer James Russell, The Base Coats really managed to craft their own style taking inspiration from modern heavy rocks act such as Royal Blood and Violent Soho right through to more classic blues/ folk acts such as Gin Wigmore and Larkin Poe all layered together around the sound of classic Aussie rock. 

The Base Coats describe the EP as “Music that anybody can relate to – everyone at some point in their life has been scorned by a lover, right? Or have felt powerless and down and out. It will have listeners (hopefully) rocking out in their kitchen singing the lyrics and feeling empowered through the music. We want people to be energised and enjoy the hard hitting, grittiness of the EP.” The band states, “We have been working to create a gritty and edgy sound coupled with great hard-hitting lyrics that our audiences can relate to. TBC aren’t your stereotypical 4 piece band and each person brings something unique to the table through the collaboration process. We are family and definitely in this for the long haul- we love music – we love it loud and we love to share our thoughts and messages through our songs.”

The Base Coats started their campaign after winning the Regional Passport to Airlie Beach Festival of Music. Since then, audiences have seen them perform at festivals, clubs, parties and corporate events and when the planets aligned The Base Coats ignited a spark that could not be ignored. The on-stage chemistry and powerful, sultry, soaring vocals of The Base Coats has propelled the newly-formed band to record their debut EP. Their infectious personalities, dirty, gritty riffs and resonating, packed-with-a-punch lyrics, combined with jaw dropping four-part harmonies demand audiences their full attention.
