With NME, Triple J behind the band and a tour with British India, and all this is a short amount of time. The Love Junkies are a band you need to know. So I got the low-down.
1. How does it feel to have NME behind the band?
None of us saw that one coming at all. When we got the call from a friend who had read the blog we were like “Really? How do they even know we exist?” haha. It feels pretty nice.
2. Are you surprised how things have gone so quickly in a short amount of time for the band?
Kind of. We have worked our arses off though, so it’s nice to see it starting to pay off. All the support and love we’ve been getting from national radio, as well online has been the surprising part. It’s a buzz to see that people are really digging our music.
3. How does it feel to be supporting British India on their national tour?
It’s our first time ever playing outside of WA and the first time the three of us will all be on a plane together so we’re pretty excited. Especially playing shows with a band that has a sweet rep. It’s a good chance to play to a healthy crowd and convert a few people. If we were doing it off our own backs it would’ve been harder to get the numbers down to a show in a town you’ve only been in for a few hours.
4. What do you hope that will do for the band?
Well, I think British India and ourselves share some similarities. I think we’ll make some new friends.
5. How does it feel having triple j support behind the band?
Good. It’s certainly a leg up when such a force is getting behind your music. We’ve reached so many more people through their help.
6. Do you think social media and the internet has played a huge part in the band success so far?
It has, It’s such an important tool. It’s a platform were you can share your growth with the people who seem interested enough to want to ride it with you.
7. Do you think bandcamp and sites like it is the way of the future for independent music?
Yes. How many people do you know don’t have a Facebook or the internet in general? It’s become so much easier to reach a large audience because of the internet, and with the right work ethic and enough good ideas I think it is very achievable to remain independent and become successful. You just need to be creative with your approach. People want to be stimulated. Give them something to be excited about and people will want to be apart of what you’re doing.
8. How does having a booking agent, management and a publicist help you as a band?
It takes the pressure off. You can focus a lot more on the creative process when people are taking care of the business end.
9. If you could have any body in a video clip who would it be?
Jesus
10. What does 2013 mean to you?
Nothing. Time is irrelevant when you’ve got a grand plan. Just gotta keep on keepin’ on.
