Interview With Hayden Cronick from Modi Operandi By
Chris 28/5/06

I personally know this musician as he is my closest and
one of my best friends.
So I knew I had to give this cat some free publicity

Modi Operandi hail from the Land of the Long White Cloud,
Aotearoa, New Zealand. Many musical projects have pathed
the way for the formation of this group, which has now
become the full-time project for it’s founding member H.K.
Modi Operandi Fuse together many, many different musical
stylings to create their own unique sound. From FUNK,
PSYCHEDELIA, HORROR SHLOCK, to DOO-WOP-esque harmonies,
WORLD MUSIC & ELECTRO, Modi Operandi are not afraid to
explore many different genres while maintaining their
PUNK-ROCK D.I.Y ethics. This is music that will get your
asses shaking, it is music that will get you thinking, it
is music that will have you floating off into different
realms you never knew existed… Modi Operandi is not just
a group. It is a musical project… A REVELATION.

1. How did the band form?

Modi Operandi is not so much of a “band,” it’s more of a
musical project. A collaboration of like minded
individuals. The idea has been around for a while and with
the demise of several other projects; I’ve had the
opportunity to work full-time on getting this project off
the ground. Everyone involved is inspired by the creative
spirits & we all want to create some mind blowing
music, sound and energy!

2. Who were your idols growing up?

Growing up there was many. To name a few… RHCP, Queen,
Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Ramones, Joe Strummer, Big Audio
Dynamite, Motorhead, Poison, Skid Row, The Cure, The Germs,
Black Flag, Fugazi, The list goes on & on. Basically we
were into anything new at any time. Particularly Punk-rock
& experimental divisions of this.

3. Who were your influences?

More or less those listed above were influences, but also
for this project, some newer acts heavily influenced us.
Groups like the Dresden Dolls, White Strpies, The
Ravonettes, The Network & John Frusciante, along with
White/Rob Zombie.

4. Who would you most like to a split CD with?

Rob Zombie, Marky Ramone or John Frusciante would be the
“dream” artist’s, but at this stage, anyone who is willing
would be great for us! Collaborating with others is what we
are all about. It is the best way to learn new things and
to learn respect for others abilities.

5. What have responses been like to your music on the
web?

Very good, we’re really appreciative of the responses so
far. We’re steadily growing a fan base thanks to our
MySpace page.

6. Has the Internet helped with your music?

Very much so, If it wasn’t for the internet I very much
doubt that anybody would know we even exist!

7. Do you think tools like MySpace are useful?

There are not enough words to describe how useful MySpace
has been for us! Fantastic.

8. Who you would most like to tour with?

Anyone really. Just to tour with some other artists who
have an open mind and an appreciation for all music would
be fantastic for both parties.

9. If you could work with any one who would it
be?

Rick Rubin or John Frusciante. John for the fact that he is
so open minded and connects with music via the other realms
within this life form, much as we do.

10. Any plans to put out any releases?

Hell Yea. Very shortly we will have our debut E.P out…
Watch this space! Haha

11. What inspires the band when writing music?

The creative spirits that connect with us on any given day
will direct our focus into a particular direction. Anything
from old skool horror imagery to the joy of being in love
with a gorgeous being. It’s not up to us to just sit and
write, but the other forces that we surround ourselves with
from day to day determine our mood and state of mind, so we
leave it up to them. That is why we can be such a diverse
unit. Our music might mean something to those in this
world, but in another universe it could connect with
someone else on a completely different level.

12. If you could be on The Simpsons or Spongebob
Squarepants where would you be?

Definately the Simpsons. Spongebob is great, but I’d love
to hang out with Moe Syzlak for an afternoon.

13. What is on your stereo at the moment?

Stadium Arcadium. The song “She looks to me” is playing
& it connects me with my Fiance big time. I know that
it means something different to Anthony Kiedis who wrote
it, but its that whole “being representative” to someone
else thing going on, A very big, deep song that provokes a
fuzzy response from the pit of my gut.

14. What are some of your favourite musical
artists/bands?

Right now I’m in love with A.F.I, RHCP & Ataxia

15. What movies you have seen lately you have really
enjoyed?

Devils Rejects…. Live Freaky Die Freaky….
Bewitched….

16. What are your favourite movies?

Horror or stupid comedies.

17. Realty TV? Good Or Bad?

Awful

Thanks for your time any last words

Yes, keep an eye out on our MySpace page for updates &
thank you for being a fan of music!
