Interview With Daniel Faherty from Envy By Chris

Envy are a great alternative rock band.
Their music is good and different from the usual
stuff.
Their album is a really good interested listen.
This band will be around for a long time.

1. Why how did the band form?

At college, we all kinda met thru mutual friends and a few
impromtu jam sessions, it just took off from there.

2. Who were your idols growing up?

Ozzy, Nolan Ryan, Mario Andretti

3. Who were your influnces?

David Gilmore, Stevie Ray, Aerosmith

4. What has the responce been to the album?

We’ve gotten a great response, people are really seeming to
like the album alot. its selling well, and everyone whos
gotten it has said only positive things about it.

5. What is it like playing live?

Its awesome playing the songs live – We can do 99% of the
stuff live, so its pretty much like you hear it.

6. Has the internet helped with your music?

Definatly, been selling CD’s online, making contacts,
booking shows, and telling our fans about our shows.

7. What are your thoughts to filesharing and the mp3
format?

I think its ok – not good or bad. If people like you, they
should still come out and see you play live. Ex – U2’s tour
right now is making record profits. Its not hurting the big
guys, and its helping many smaller bands become more known
and accesable. It also weeds out the 1 hit wonder bands
that shouldnt be selling their whole ablum for 1 three min.

8. Have you had much responce from labels?

We are currently working with Universal and Geffen has said
good things about it.

9. If you could work with any one who would it
be?L

Kurt cobain- that guy was a hell of a song writer – not the
most technical of players, but had tons of heart and
emotion

10. How did the recording process for the new album
go?

Took a long time – Did it over about a year in my bedroom.
Mixed and engineered all the tracks myself, spent a great
deal of time “perfecting” tones and learning how to get
instruments to mesh.

11. So what’s it like being an indepedent artist in
america?

Seems like there is a lot to do, and never enuff time to do
it! all kinds of territory and people to play for, but
also, many bands to compete with.

12. What are your thoughts on realty tv talent shows eg
american idol?

They’re ok. I dont watch tv ever. maybe watched 1/2 hour in
the last month. Just too busy to spend time doing nothing.
I’ll pick up a guitar or a book before i pick up the
remote.

13. If you could have a dream gig line up who would they
be?

The doors. Being able to see those guys would be
magical.

14. Who has helped you out the most?

My parents. they have been the most supportive and helpful
people anyone could ask for. They are our biggest
fans.

15. If you could be on The Simpsons or Spongebob
Squarepants where would you be?

We’d play a gig at moe’s.

16. What is on your stereo at the moment?

Tiny music – STP

17. What are some of your favourite musicial
artists/bands?

Megadeth, Zeppelin, Heart, Joe walsh

18. What movies you have seen lately you have really
enjoyed?

National Treasure (i know, its a pg disney movie, but i was
drunk when i saw it, so it was fun)
