Young Werther – Knights Of The Department Store (Popboomerang Records/MGM)

I first heard Young Werther 3 years ago one Sunday evening at the edinburgh castle who was playing gig with Lydia Phillips who I know and have booked shows with. I was really impressed with how he performed and songs just really jelled together. 3 years later he has released his debut album Knights Of The Department Store and he shows why on this album that why he is one of the best male singer songwriters on the Melbourne music scene at the moment. The album is light years ahead of anything else I’ve heard from a male singer songwriter at the moment. It starts off with Around The World, a really Don McGlashan /Mutton Birds type song with lovely backing vocals by Georgia Fields. For starters the album is a lot different to the EP it’s more raw and edgier and a bit more fast paced and lively. In ways he reminds me a lot of Don McGlashan and how they can both write just incredible powerful passionate songs that really do draw you in. Songs like A Week In Hell how it’s structured and sung really proves that immediateness. I Don’t Wanna Go To The Circus is a dark moody ballady anthem that shows off his songwriting skills. No One In Their Right Mind is why I dug his music in the first place, really catchy upbeat melodic solid tune. Break The News is a simple dark ballad that let’s Young Werther show of how he can write tunes, write interesting lyrics and let the listener be drawn into his word. Songs like A Man Dressed In Lightning is one of those songs that lingers after you listen, it’s the longest song on the album and captures his way with instruments and the use of them and how the band works together. The Great Outdoors is a great track, a song I could see community radio playing as with Around The World. This is a great album, I liked a lot, he is a fine singer songwriter and talent like his will not be unoticed because good songwriting stands the test of time.

Mark Wagner – Sun’s Gonna Rise (Otis Alan Records)

A good song writer doesn’t need gimmicks or tricks to sell his music, his music will just really will speak for itself. Mark Wagner is one of those songwriters, just a guy with good songs and a great voice.  His latest album Sun’s Gonna Rise just shows that. These songs are just good laid back chilled pop rock tunes and they are all seriously winners. From the upbeat opening track There’s A Mountain with it’s hints of The Wallflowers to the moving track With You capture the diversity and vocals skills of Mark alongside his incredible talent as a songwriter.  Walk Along Beside You is a song that deserves radio play, such a good catchy easy going track that screams radio play.  Part proper R&B,soul and a bit rock pop makes it a song that will get you singing along.  Sweet Summertime is a good soul/R&B track that laid back and cruisy.  Good use of a female singer on the track. Songs like  Love You Today, A New, Something To Believe In shows off that Mark can write and sing both upbeat tracks and also ballads into the mix. Let It Move You is funky upbeat groovying number that makes you wanna get up and dance.  It finishes off with the winning number There Is hope another great ballad track. Mark gotta great voice and good tunes to back him up. His talent as a songwriter is incredible,  he can write tunes that stand the test of time.  Mark a talent surely to go places and if you haven’t picked this up yet, do so.  A good album that can be played at any time.

With so much good talented in music and acting, here is my hit list of people to watch out for and well there making a name for themselves.

 Michelle Page

This incredibly talented female actor is one of the most wonderful, kind caring friend with so much talented. She got some new work and people that are gonna ensure she a talent to go always see. She is seriously the real deal as actors go. none of this Hollywood BS.  I think she amazing with so much talent to go far. Just a genuine amazing friend supportive of me as much as I am of her.

Gillian Emmett

This very beautiful talented aussie actor, is going places. With a role alongside Malcolm McDowell. With two films in the pipeline with good solid roles. She gonna take over the aussie acting world very soon. I can see her being the next big thing. Watch this space. If you haven’t heard of her yet, you will. Pop on over to to see why she is so good.

Incredible Melbourne Power Pop/Rock band with the talent to go so far and believe me they will. They have signed to my good mate Scott Thurling Popboomerang Records. Distance Is A Gun is an incredible EP worth having in your collection.

 Coby Grant

Incredible aussie singer songwriter based in Melbourne who got three amazing EP’s out all worth having in your collection. She now booked by the biggest booking agent in Australia and one of her songs is used by bottle water brand somewhere in Europe. This girl has got the talent to be huge and she will.

Sarah McMonagle

Incredibly talented aussie country singer songwriter with so many good songs, really great voice and good honest lyrics. totally dig what she does.

So you know, I’m good mates with Michelle Page and will review anything she is in. So if the review is a little bias that why. I do it to give some pr and stuff.

Sensored DVD Review (Hannover House)

Sensored is one of those movies that from the word get go. well your in a movie experience that will either leave you feeling disturbed/sick or being blown away. For me I’m in the middle. I think the movie is brilliant thanks to Robert Picardo stellar performance as Wade Nixon a children book author who has a dark side, like to kill and hurt people. Ryan Todd has done a stellar job directing the film. Michelle Page is totally believable as Tara, you really don’t want her to end up the way she does. she gives a really brave performance and shows why she is an amazing actor. The film is really quite creepy and disturbing. David Fine is awesome as Agent Jeffries. It’s a film that gives a whole new meaning to the horror/thriller genre. It’s a film that offers a lot to the viewer. It isn’t just about what the character Wade Nixon does to people. It has a sense of intelligent and also how to really get in side your skin. Normally I’m not creeped out by horror movies as you know, I’ve just gotten use to them but the way that the main character of Wade hurts his victims well it really creeped me out and made a little uncomfortable for a bit, made me need to something else for a while. The use of the RED camera is quite remarkable, they made the film look amazing, you couldn’t tell that this was a indie film and I think with the right crew like this film has, it will work to bring out a steller effort. This is not your average horror movie, this is a film that offers good acting, well written dialog, characters with substance and a film that will make you go wonder about your next door neighbour.

This is one gonna be one really touching and inspiring movie.  One of my favorite people to interviews of last year Julie Dickson.

Is going to be this amazing movie called Just Like U. Julie a real sweetheart and she super talented and I know she gonna be awesome in it. Here is the synopsis.

This movie is a very hearting warming and heart wrenching story about the life of a young man with
Down Syndrome and the lives he touching along the way.
Bradley is in his late 20’s. He lives on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. He works in a number of part time
and voluntary jobs.
He is a cleaner at the local shopping centre and is also a trolley pusher for a grocery store. Another of his
jobs is as a bellboy at one of the nicest local hotels, The Oceans in Mooloolaba. One of his favourite jobs
is his volunteer work at a local kindergarten where the children all adore him immensely.
Early in the movie, Bradley meets a young women called Britney. She is a 26 year old budding author.
Britney arrives at the hotel one day during one of Bradley’s shifts. He is given the job of taking her bags
to the room. They strike up a conversation.
Over the next few days , Britney and Bradley bump into each other and a friendship forms.
Throughout the duration of the film we see the many wonderful ways that Bradley interacts with people
in the community. We also see a few experiences where he encounters people that take advantage of
Over time Bradley discovers that Britney is quite unhappy inside, about her broken relationship with
her only brother. Bradley is instrumental in helping her to get this relationship back on track after her
brother arrives on the coast to join her on this annual holiday.
The road is a little bumpy for a time, until Britney’s brother Don, has things to learn and a few big life
lessons happen, at the hands of Bradley. Then a tragedy strikes. This has a huge effect on the main
This is a very touching and emotional story. We are hoping to dispel some of the misconceptions about
what people with Down Syndrome, can and can’t do. They are a lot more capable then many have given
them credit for.
Much will be revealed in , ‘Just Like U’.

Written and Directed by Peter R. Cannon.

It’s gonna be a great film. Julie talented and what the film is about will no doubt touch many people. Could be the next award winning aussie film.

Celadore – Distance Is A Gun (Popboomerang Records/MGM)

I’m a product of the 90’s and I miss loud melodic guitars. Then along
came Celadore with their amazing single Make Sure in the mailbox and
they completely knocked me off my seat with bloody how good their music
is. The new EP Distance Is A Gun features that song and 4 other amazing
melodic rock tunes that are a breath of fresh air and will rock your
socks off. Distance Is A Gun is a good slab of melodic rock that edgy,
well played and has radio play all over it. Eliza is my pick off the
EP,  It’s the song I reckon that could make it for them. It well
structured, song reminds me of Motor Ace & Gyroscope. It’s the big
ballad anthem track that grabs you in and won’t let you go until the
song over. You Say I Say Too Much is just a good rock track and which is
well sung and well played. It finishes off with Control which is part
ballad anthem part progressive rock and something quite unique. When I
first heard Celadore back in December I couldn’t believe my luck in
hearing a really amazing band from Melbourne with actually solid tunes
that were really different in the Melbourne music scene. Not only that
but they have been doing it quietly their way and it’s paying off for
them. Celadore are doing something fresh, something really exciting and
have released an EP that will cement their place as one of Australia’s
hottest new bands.
