Side Out

Brett from Side Out answers my questions

1. how did the band form?

Side Out was originally formed by brothers Marcus & Marcelo
Crespilho with two others after there last band Absolute Confuzion broke
up. I (Brett Harrell) ended up joining as the bass player about a half
year later after leaving Brownie Points. Our drummer left about a year
after I joined and was replaced by our current drummer Danny Strong.

2. who has been your favourite band to play with?

We’ve gotten to play with some really cool bands, but I would
have to say Yellowcard rocked the most. They bring lots of energy and
enthusiasm to the stage.

3. who are your influnces?

We are influenced by many bands. To name a few, bands such as
Pennywise, Strung Out, Strike Anywhere and Thrice have played a major
part in influencing our writing. We all love metal too, so we try to
incorporate some of it our music as well.

4. who would you most like to play with?

I can’t speak for the rest of the band since we all put different
bands at the top of our “heroes” list, but I would love to share the
stage with Strung Out some day.

5. which bands have helped you out the most?

Just about every band we’ve played with has helped us in some
way. We’ve had some great times thanks to local bands, in and out of
Florida, who’ve hooked us up with great shows.

6. if your were allowed to play on the simpsons where would it be?
On top of Otto’s school bus for sure.

7. where has been your favourite venue to play?

Our home town has a venue called The Social. We’ve played some of
our best and funnest shows there. It definitely holds a place in our
hearts.

8. what are you listening to at the moment?

This week I’ve been listening to a lot of Faith No More along
with the new Pennywise CD, In Flames, Atreyu and Quicksand.

9. what do you do to warm up before playing a gig?

Drink a couple beers of course.

10. any new releases in the pipeline?

We are currently writing and recording new songs. We hope to have
another album out this year, if not, sometime early next year. Of course,
we are looking for a label to help us release it.

Our latest album can be picked up a Interpunk.com. You can check
out the songs for free at www.mp3.com/sideout.

Feable Weiner

Atom From Feable Weiner answers my questions

Feable Weiner

1.how did the band form?

The band formed, unlike many other rock bands, in acoustic venues of all
places. It started as just Josh and me playing these really catchy and
unserious rock tunes for a handful of people on a weekly basis aside from
our harder rocking outfit called TheirOhnStars (ultra melodic post
hardcore).

We had a great time doing it and didn’t think much about
it…UNTIL… we started noticing more and more people week to week that
would show up and know all the words the songs.

It didn’t take long to
figure out that these kids were recording the shows and passing them to
their friends while encouraging them to come to our next show. Finally
that was the sign that we should put something together with our most
excellent pals Jeff and Ben. That’s how we came into the world. The people
sang back at us and we listened. We were elected to rock by the people, in
a manner of speaking.

2.what were your major influnces?

Major influences include Little Richard, The Promise Ring, Nerf Herder,
Ben Folds 5, =W=, Rocket from the Crypt, Superdrag, to name just a few.

3.if you could have a three band bill who would they be?

Twisted Sister and Warrant opening for US!

4. what music do you class yourselves as?

Hyper fun rock’n’soul, baby.

5. where do you think you will be in 10 years?

just check http://www.twistedsister.com for the answer to this question.
We are going to be doing THAT!

6. what has been your best gig you have played so far?

There are sooo many incredible shows bills that we’ve been on, but the
show that is #1 in my book has to be our show with Jimmy Eat World right
when their record hit gold status in Nashville @ The Exit/In. It was
absolutely a big highlight in my short life span.

7. what made you want to go out and play music?

The Beatles hairdo.

8. what your fav type of drink?

Vanilla Pepsi poured into a half-full Corona bottle with lime twisted, not
squeezed.

9. who would most like to record a song with?
It’s a tie between Ben Folds and John Reis (Speedo from Rocket from the
Crypt)….how about record the song with Ben Folds and John Reis as the
producer. Yeah, that would work for me.

10. where would you most like to play on the simpsons?

Mmm, the obvious one would have to be Moe’s Tavern, but since we are in
smelly smokey bars every night I’m going to opt for the very natural and
dangerous choice of Bart’s treehouse. In one episode it looked pretty damn
spacious up there. Milhouse would be serving cocktails at the minibar.

thanks again for yah time any last words

YES! PLEASE pick up the new record that comes out THIS TUESDAY,
Oct.14th!!! It’s absolutely imperative to pass along the word of the
Weiner and let everyone know that it is in stores.

If the store doesn’t
have it there then they can definitely order it. If all else fails you can
order it online from
Feable Weiner ,
Doghouse , or Interpunk .

Please check out our songs and website and if you see and like, please buy
and help support good indie music.
Thanks again for the coverage, Chris!

The Kite Eating Tree

Mike And Tom from The Kite Eating Tree answers my questions

The Kite Eating Tree

1.how did the band form?

Mike – Lets see, I met Tom C at a party, Trent at a bar, Tom Ack’s old band played with our old band a few times. Only 2 bass players turned up to try out for the band. One guy brought his 12 string bass, Trent brought a 12 pack of Budweiser. The decision was easily made based on those 2 facts alone. The first time I met Ackerman I drunkenly accused him of ripping off the guitar and vocal style of Skiploader, of whom I was a big fan, but not a big enough fan to know that they had broken up and Ackerman was in fact the front man of Skiploader before he was in Neighborly. He thought (rightly) that I was a dunken asshole and I slithered back to the bar. For some reason we became friends. I’m still not sure why.

Tom – MIKE KNOWS THIS ONE…

2.what were your major influnces?

Mike – Old Creation Records bands-Swervedriver, My Bloody Valentine, Boo Radleys, Ride, etc. Plus lots of american indie rock-Jawbox, Barkmarket, Superchunk, Fugazi, Dinosaur Jr., Failure

Tom – SUB-POP, DISCORD, SST & HEDHUNTER RECORDS

3.if you could have a three band bill who would they be?

Mike -Jimi Hendrix, the Clash, the Who (stick with dead people. they’re the only ones who remain cool for more than a year)

Tom – ELP, ELO, & EMF

4. what music do you class yourselves as?

Mike -Rock. Any embellishments (melodic, smart, blahblahblah) invariably sound stupid. A drum kit, bass rig, and 2 half stacks=a rock band, no matter what little sub-genres people want to invent.

Tom – POST-HARDCORE/INDY/EMO

5. where do you think you will be in 10 years?

Mike – I’m not even sure about 10 days from now.

Tom – PROBABLY IN THE PTA

6. what has been your best gig you have played so far?

Mike – Every gig is the best gig. Whether there’s 2 people or 2000.

Tom – WHEN WE OPENED FOR METALLICA AT THE MTV MVA’S. OH, THAT WASN’T US, MY BAD…

7. what made you want to go out and play music?

the lure of girls drugs and other miscellaneous free stuff

8. what your fav type of beer?

Mike – Pabst Blue Ribbon or Miller High Life

Tom – I DON’T DRINK

9. who would most like to record a song with?

Mike – Johnny Cash. again with the dead people. sorry.

Tom – SILVERCHAIR. BUT MOSTLY SO I CAN BRUSH THEIR HAIR.

10. any new releases in the pipeline?

NOT YET. WE HAVE RECORDED A CD ENTITLED “METHOD: FAIL, REPEAT” THAT SHOULD BE RELEASED IN MID/LATE FEBRUARY. WE’RE JUST FINALIZING OUR INDIE DEAL AS WE SPEAK.

thanks for your time any last words

Mike – Watch your ass, dont listen to shitty bands. they’ll go away if we all ignore them. I hope we can come to Australia and play sometime soon.

Tom – THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT. I’M A SMARTASS. DON’T LISTEN TO MUSICIANS.
